They have a point

ya but they aren't full citizens. theyre second-class at best. if youre not jewish, you cant be president

there is SOME tension between ashkenazi and sephardim but that was mostly back at the begining of Israel. By and large the entertainment industry had a lot to do with erasing that hatred between the two groups, and its an interesting story. If you look at the pop music coming out of Israel at the begining you see (hear) that its all very... (I can't think of a non racist way to say this)... white and boring and clean and sterile. As sephardic influence starting rearing its head into the music scene, that boring music was over and the whole idea of the white european ashkenazi jew as being more civilized etc. was dealt a blow.

Today, the tension only manifests itself in very superficial jokes (someone will make a joke about someone being a pussy and ashkenazi, or being dumb and sephardic), but its just a matter of words at this point, not hate, not actively doing anything, and even that is very un PC. Perhaps you are referring to tension between the ultra religious ashkenazi and the rest of Israel, which has almost nothing to do with them being ashkenazi.

Given that Israel is the most progressive nation in the Middle East, you'd think progressives world-wide would be more accepting of them as a nation.

Not so.

we in the united states should push for more diversity in israel. diversity promotes a stronger, better society!

the ability to be president of the country which was created explicitly as a jewish state defines the extent of your citizenship?

what about the civil societies of sephardis brought about by political parties such as shas? what's happened since the late 1990s?

At what point did you skip over the word "most"

Did he say they were progressive compared to european countries? Alabama? Any other place besides the Middle East?

You have done smoked yourself retarded.

you do realize that the Palestinians are blood thirsty animals who have no interest in peace right?

dude that is a small part of current israeli culture/history etc. and its political which is, in this case, quite separate than what actually happens in the culture. i think they hold like 5 percent of the seats in parliment anyway. hardly anything. also theyre ultre religious, and israelis generally dont go for that kind of thing.

LOL. do i really have to? do you not know how the israelis treated / still treat the sephardi jews? at least alabama offers drivers license exams in multiple languages.

not to mention...durrr ya know...palestine

i was under the impression that not creating a blockade and limiting the water supply to a certain group of people(and bombing ) was a prerequisite to being called a progressive nation.

you can get married, but marriage is a religious thing in israel. so muslims get married, and they are israeli citizens, and the government recognizes their marriage. gays can get married too. theres just a difference in the extent in which the state participates in the marriage.
