Made in Dagenham.... another unfunny British "comedy" film.

I didn't say comedy wasn't subjective, nor did I comment on how intelligent or sophisticated your sense of humour is.

I merely stated that not finding Brasseys funny tells me everything I need to know about your taste in comedy. Which it does.
 
I know you didn't say comedy is subjective. I did. :)

I would love to know what you think my taste in comedy is as you have decided you know "everything" you need to know but I haven't said any films, or comedians that make me laugh.
 
OP. Is Made in Dagenham even supposed to be a 'comedy' in the laugh out loud sense of the word? I thought it was a womens rights kind of affair, with the obvious 'humerous' bits thrown in. They have a demographic that it shouts clearly to. I wont be watching.

On the flip side. We do certain types of movie better than many countries. Why not stick to what we know best? Seeing as we dont have the support or anywhere near the kind of money our frienRAB in Hollywood have.

To quote a previous poster, Harry Brown was a decent 'dark' movie. As is A Room for Romeo Brass, or Dead Mans Shoes. Even films like Nil by Mouth, Final Cut...suitably dark, with intersting stories. As i said, we do certain things very well. Why stop? I can see where you're coming from about the 'oop north' movies, just dont lump everything into that bracket.
 
OP , can you please tell me 3 films which you do find funny , from any country , apart from 'Are You Being Served ' (:eek:) which you have already mentioned .
 
You make a good point. Brassed Off predates the full Monty though. Brassed Off is more serious/sadder IMO (it's not laugh out loud) but you're right, they do have similar themes :)

Before I do I think I should point out that I saw Are you being served in the cinema and I was about 13 at the time. I've seen it since and it does nothing for me now.

It is difficult question to name films because like everybody else, how you are feeling, tiredness, state of mind etc at that moment will affect if you find or funny or not.

In no particular order 3 that still make me laugh after many viewings include

The Life of Brian
Arsenic and old lace
Planes, Trains and Automobiles

There have been loaRAB that have made me smile and smirk, even feel impressed at how the joke was done, but very few make me laugh out loud.
These gross out comedies we've had in the last few years do nothing for me. Cameron Diaz has put spunk in her hair... wow hysterical...next!
Quite often modern films from all countries the jokes are either so laboured or are so predictable.
Quite often they'll be a sight gag in an action film that will make me laugh more than the stuff in a comedy film because it's unexpected. Often these tend to be an variation on a prat fall or a person that has played no part in the film and is just an extra getting involved in some kind of accident.
