Maddie Blaustein, 4Kids VA for Meowth, dies at 48

I havn't watched Pokemon since I was 11..Still sad though...Meowth was always one of my favriotes.....Funny THing is i always thought a guy voiced him..still very sad. R.I.P. Maddie...and thank you for making my childhood entertaining!

Nothing wrong with asking that. Yeah, she did.

I've never actually heard any of her...well, woman voices. Judging from the fact that she played Meowth for a significant while after changing her gender, I assume she didn't get a voice change. Not trying to sound mean, but I really can't picture someone with a voice like hers being able to do deep, womanly characters. Anyone have any clips?

Here's a clip of the character Blaustein played in Shadow Hearts (skip to 7:55 in the video).

I had no idea Blaustein was trans-gendered until I read her Wikipedia page last year. Before that, since she used to be credited as "Adam Blaustein", I actually thought she took over the role of Meowth from her brother.

THAT was Blaustein?? Sounded like Veronica Taylor to me. Maybe I just don't understand how being transgendered works, but how can someone alter their voice to such a dramatic extent?

It does sound a lot like Veronica Taylor. But, according to the game's credits, that character was played by Blaustein (Veronica Taylor played the main female character in the same game). The first time I read it I didn't believe it, either.

And I don't think Blaustein ever altered her natural voice (though I can't say for sure) since she still managed to play very masculine characters up until she died. My guess is that she just had a great vocal range and/or a naturally higher voice even before her transition.

I was completely shocked when I saw the news on Serebii. I was hoping that it wasn't true, but that post from her friend and the link that 4KiRAB posted on their website proved it. This is just terrible news. I want to cry so much for her and her family and frienRAB. From what I could tell from the post she made on Serebii and Bulbagarden, Maddie was not only a talented voice actress, but she was also a really kind person who cared about her fans. It's so depressing that she died so young, but at least it sounRAB like she didn't suffer.

I loved her voice for Meowth so much. She practically was Meowth in many ways to me and other fans' eyes. She also really loved that role the most. I knew that she had other impressive roles as well. I personally loved her voice for Satorious in GX and she worked wonderfully with Rex Goodwin in 5RAB. In the mist of this depressing news, I do wonder who they'll have voicing him from now on. I also wonder how far they got with dubbing the series so far too.

Anyway, I believe that she was the first major voice actress of my childhood who has passed away and it just feels so overwhelming. I hope and pray for her family and frienRAB during this emotional time of loss. Rest in peace, Maddie. Wherever your spirit is now, I hope that you are in a place of true peace and happiness.

By the way, veemonjosh, thanks for posting that link to Mewoth's Party song. That made me smile and want to hug Meowth at the same time.

Damn.... the voice of Wally Tusket just died. She was actually few VA from 4kiRAB that I actually liked. I actually feel sad about that, I first heard of this from Bulbapedia as they had her as a feature article on the page, considering that it was a wiki, I decided to look further into it.

Speaking of Blaustein, it's a shame that the other Meowth songs from Pokemon were never dubbed by her. How many songs were sang by Meowth in the original Japanese version?

I actually found out about this from the rabroad aim chat, but really that's terrible. I mean Meowth's original(or second if you wish) VA was probably the best voice in Pokemon.

I hope she will rest in piece. =( It's sad deaths like these just come out of nowhere.

Maddie was truly a woman of many voices (previously a man of many voices, but I digress). Perhaps the most memorable voice for me was when she adopted a deep, seductive female voice for Shadow Hearts 2, but her Meowth will always stick in my mind thanks to nostaglia.

I never knew she was behind Weevil. Wow. You learn something new every day.

She is a great person and a great VA that dub fans and the industry will miss. There wasn't anyone truly like her in the industry, someone who could voice both men and women naturally. She also really cared about her fans (the fact she has fans speaks of how talented and kind she is), and I'm glad she was overall a great person.

She is one of the best VAs in the NY talent pool and I think the NY pool is definitely worse off without her.

Ah, I remeraber joining up on the Serebii forums just to get a chance to talk to such an admired performer. Granted, there were some issues I felt strongly against, and I remeraber causing a smidge of animosity based on that front. In the end, I ended up agreeing to disagree, and it does not affect my admiration of Maddie's acting chops and dedication to the fans.

All I can say is, sing on, scratch cat, sing on...

No, that's Jimmy Zoppi. Blaustein was Gramps.

There's been at least 4 or 5 in the show, along with the ones with J&J, plus a nuraber of CD-only tunes. It's mostly too bad Meowth's Song never got properly dubbed besides that little snippet from "Go West, Young Meowth!"; most of the other main songs got covered in some form.

ZelleScott Rayow — Zhuzhen LiuTed Lewis — Keith ValentineCarter Cathcart — Roger BaconAccording to here, it says other wise and yes, these characters were the only ones that got voiced. Veronica Taylor plays as Alice in the game with an accent. And, there's something about the voice (for Margarete) that doesn't spell Taylor to me. There's a slight grittiness in her voice there and Taylor usually doesn't have that.

Allow me to disprove the accuracy of that list with this (5:15): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uioFGEwnakM
Unless I'm mistaken, that's supposed to be Yuri talking. And yet, that's Ted Lewis voicing him and not Eric Stuart.
