Mad Men.

Many thanks to Hendero for the link - I was a bit confused by the bit at the beginning with the flashback as Don was stirring the milk, but I have it clear now. I think.

I've only watched the first episode so far - loved the bit with the guy who had just been made redundant smashing things up. I found it a bit confusing that Hooker seems to look like a clone of Pete.
 
So Jimmy wasn't as green as he was cabbage-looking. I had wondered at the time what was up when he demanded to see Don (just after the car crash) he had simply thanked him, but with a strange look in his eyes. I think in retrospect he had known all along and phoned Betty on purpose to set up the evening at the Stork club, knowing that Don would probably have refused the invitation.

I wonder if Kitty has any idea of Sal's tendencies?
 
Bad leg? :confused: I didn't notice Anna limping or hear her even mentioning anything about this. I must have unknowingly missed an episode or 2 somewhere because I wasn't aware Anna even had a sister who was supposed to marry the real Don. The reason Dick Whitman gave Anna the reason that her husband had not mentioned her was that he hadn't known him that well or for very long, which seems a plausible reason
 
For me: The characters are interesting and mysterious, hiding secrets, their ambitions conflicting with their lives.

It also has the same appeal of any period drama (because that's what Mad Men is): Seeing characters and behaviour from another era, and relating it to how we live now.

And finally, the 60s setting is just so unbelievably cool.

This show is like a dream. I love it!
 
I am a sky HD customer, not too fussed about who shows it as long as it's in HD, and the aRAB always get skipped over anyway with skyplus :)

I have been waiting to start this season, I have them all sitiing on my planner as I like to watch eps back to back. Pouring with rain and horrible outside, plus my OH is working away so tonight seems like the perfect night to open a bottle of wine and get lost in Mad Men land...............bliss! :D
 
Tonight's episode was the best 45 minutes of TV for a very long time. Totally compelling from start to finish.

This series goes for strength to strength. It's becoming a classic programme of all time.

There were numerous sublime moments tonight. I can't pick the best. The casting is just perfect. Don writing a journal is simple yet so very effective.
 
Nope. The chemistry between those two is palpable without a doubt. However, as someone metioned on here, Joan is a strong woman, she can go toe-to-toe with Don. I don't believe anything will come of it, but there definitely is chemistry. :) I wonder if there ever was a fling between those two in the past? I believe Joan has a thing for Roger. You know, the whole love (her) versus lust (him) thing. :p
 
Damn ! Just read a big spoiler about Peggy on IMDB !!. If you don't want to know don't read the discussion forums there !

Needless to say the make up department do a great job on her gaining weight.
 
Interesting thought, it doesn't explain Pete though - he'd have been a child during the war! I think Pete's problems stem from his father. (Am I right in remembering in an earlier episode a mention of an older, more successful brother, or have I made that up?)

I too would like to see more of the gay theme. I love the Salvatore charchter and thought the scene from one of the episodes where he was propositioned was beautifully done.
 
Just the loved the scene where Sally and Don were eating alone in the kitchen ( he broke an egg into a frying pan)
I had tears in my eyes.
Don seemed very close to his daughter and it made me laugh when she said" you can cook!"
A real tender moment in a fantastic programme.
 
If you can play Region 1, cancel your order and buy the Region 1 if anything just for the packaging. Region 2 is just the ordinary DVD box, but R1 is shaped like and opens like an old fashioned cigarette lighter with shiny red discs, looks amazing.
 
I have an HD STB - but I'm choosing to watch MM on Topfield SD PVR because the sound on HD is so weak and lacks the quality that is essential to soak up the sound of those voices. I've got a soundbar+sub that really beefs up my plasma's sound but it can't compensate for HD's shortcomings.

I don't think it's just my STB that's at fault, I've noticed some users of the new HD PVRs remark the same.

Fortunately my TV is a great upscaler, I really don't feel deprived watching MM in SD.

Wondering if Joan's little lie down is another hint at the possible pregnancy storyline? I'm pregnant and if there was a sofa anywhere in my workplace I'd be napping on it every chance I got!

Loved Pete to Peggy: 'hey, but now you might get his office!' :D And there's still a spark between them, isn't there?
