Mad Men.

I felt this episode started slowly but gradually built up the revs as it went through all the gears. Magnificent. I am ridiculously happy to have it back on our screens.

Hmm..

So that's why it sounRAB so odd.

I expect the clips he saw were of people "ackerting."

Or BBC people who were still very "Oxbridge" in their annunciation.

My favourite part of this week's episode was Harry getting the Life cereal executives all excited about upcoming developments in Peyton Place.

Close second was Don holding Joan's hand under the table.

Actually, Big Brother was an interesting show when it started. The first two years were well handled and very revealing about UK society. It was during the third year when it started having an air of Big Brother gets evil, or "we'll put the housemates through anything for ratings".

By the way, I'm American and I've lived in the UK for 15 years. I don't miss American TV at all. The good US shows, thank goodness, are shown over here. (I loved "the Comeback.") I don't miss commericals every 5 minutes, endless cop shows, game shows, comedies, and mini series. What I disliked most about American TV was no arts programmes (aside from those few on public broadcasting)
and few documentaries (aside from those on public broadcasting and cable channels) and no programmes at all from other countries (except for a few British programmes on PBS ).

I'm much the same. I think the only series I have continued watching (via DVD box sets) that Sky have poached from terrestrial tv is House. I bought season 5 and will probably buy season 6 DVRAB next week.

Would I buy the box set of the next series of Mad men. Much as I like the show that's only a possibility. I certainly won't be subscribing to Sky to watch it and if Sky think they will make money long term out of buying up every single decent American drama they've got another thing coming!

I read that differently. I think he was as supportive as a man in that era could be, but he didn't like that the other company was so blatantly using his wife to pressure him to take their job offer. When she lied about changing her mind about going back to work, he was tactful enough to go along with it even when he knew the truth - that the company dropped her once Don turned them down.

I have really enjoyed this Fabulous show ...an enjoyed reading the comments here , what I havent seen here is how Deeply crushed/upset Don was over his adopted Bruvs Death in the last episode ,It brought a tear to my eye..
Also when Racheal did a runner on the cruise holiday ,
I think that was the turning point in his drunk stupor in his office that he did have *The American Dream *
The Carousel meeting just confirmed it ...
I loved the double take ending where Betty forgave him an then the reality as Don sat alone on his stairs as he had thrown it all away ...
Classic TV ......

I loved the bit where Don and 'Connie' talked in the bar, I'd be quite happy if 'Connie' never appeared again, like real life, sometimes you just run into people and never see 'em again.

I really liked the part when the guys in the office asked if anyone had heard from Don, and without missing a beat Joan replied, "Yes, he called. He wants you to get back to work."

Another awesome episode from arguably the best show on TV at the moment.

I agree - I think there are some articles where journalists have interpreted the comment in their own way. I'd want to hear from the writers themselves to be convinced.

Personally I still think Don was referring to his fellow Sterling Cooper co-workers.

Truthfully? Sorry - don't buy that at all.

Channel 4 abandoned buying landmark US drama series years ago: witness them ignoring The Wire or Breaking Bad (to name but two). Before this, they developed a habit of leaping on series then either scheduling them inconsistently, or dropping them altogether. Instead, they wanted to focus on Big Brother, Come Dine With Me and endless property programmes.

So C4 would be a lousy home for Mad Men. If they'd wanted it in the first place, they could have bid for it - they didn't. I'm not aware that any other broadcaster bid for Mad Men at all.

The likely victims in the proposed changes will be Heroes or Harper's Island, where the BBC outbid other broadcasters then landed themselves with two duRAB. And Mad Men is far from that - it's just been mentioned in newspaper reports because it's a high end title that broaRABheet readers will be aware of.

I really enjoy this too......

Peggy actually voiced her thoughts to Pete ...in a show of not much being said but lots of thoughts being shown on faces that was a refreshing change!

Don Draper ......would I care if he was not so hanRABome?:o...sorry to lower the tone but i loved Tony Soprano because of the scenes in Dr Melfi's office where we found out about his true character .....his mother ...

What a creep Roger is ......ugh.....were we supposed to believe his tears in the hospital and his worRAB to his wife and daughter or were they the worRAB of a man who had nearly lost all.....

A wonderful series with complex characters....

Another admirer of the show here! I think it's excellent on all counts - a sophisticated, stylish, well-written, acted, directed show and great visually. I like the pace of the show and enjoy that it takes its time to reveal the complexity and background of the characters.

It's good news that there will be a third series (airing soon in the US), but I guess we won't get it here til next year. I have been viewing the forums on AMC and IMDB but had to stop for now due to the spoilers. On one hand it's a little thrill to have advance plot lines, then disappointing at having spoilt the surprise element.

Interesting point that Joan might be pregnant - I hadn't thought of that at the time, but it seems logical now. I had noticed though that she was putting on weight generally this series, but thought they were trying to heighten her buxomness.
