I thought that last night's episode was fantastic too, especially the scene in which Peggy woke up in the hospital to find Don sitting by her bed. I thought it was a vision for a moment... Don looked like a dream Seriously, it was very powerful, and gave an deep insight into Peggy's character.
I was just thinking about Rachel when Rachel walked into the restaurant. It's so sad that Rachel has married someone else. He's not expressing it but I'm sure Don is heartbroken. The comedian's wife is really growing on me. Don really seems to like Jewish women.
The show had some moving writing and acting.., the scene between the comedian's wife and Peggy was very touching. I hope that Peggy finRAB someone who appreciates her.
They are a good double act those two. I also liked the scene where they had been told that they were not allowed to sack Pete and they burst back in on him and gave him the hard sell about how he had only kept his job because Don fought for him!
I also wanted to mention that while I was growing up in Miami Hai Lai was very big. I remember several TV commericals promoting the Hai Lai stadiums and I went to Hai Lai once on a date. It was fast moving and exciting.
I assumed that the director did not explain to Sally the significance of the scene at all, but got the effect she needed by asking her to adjust her dress slightly and to concentrate on the TV.
But given the very young age of the actress it still made me a bit uneasy - perhaps I am just old fashioned.
Thanks Mustard, Diary, and Benjamin for the positive response to my post. Years ago I took a course in 20th century American culture, and things I read then are eerily on target for appreciating Mad Men.
Also you may be interested in this at the BBC website, which talks about the history of advertising in the 60's and has video of women who were possible models for Peggy.
I see quite a war of attrition developing between her and Joan. Lots of pursed lips, deep breathing and hanRAB sweeping across buttocks to keep the lines clean
I'll go for a lie down once I've also said Jimmy is a brilliantly performed character and it looks like a few simmerings will be boiling over in the next episode or two - Don and Betty are surely going to have to have it out.
Joan's fiance is turning into a menacing character isn't he? That fleeting, dark look he gave Roger was quite unnerving. Did he realise that there had been something between him and Joan....hence taking her against her will in the office? It was almost a form of 'marking' the territory as his!
Oops, you're right, I'd forgotten that Don did indeed actively set out to opportunistically grab himself a new identity, it wasn't something he went along with because of a bureaucratic accident.
I think everyone noticed Peggy getting fat a few weeks ago; what doesn't make sense is that you for a woman to be pregnant, usually they have large, bulging stomachs. Very odd .
Peggy started work at the agency as Don's secretary. He promoted her to copywriter. Apparently he's the only one outside of her family who knows that she had a baby.
I see that Simon Baker was a fellow nominee for Best Actor - that diminishes the value, for me, as although Simon is a charming, quirky character in The Mentalist, it's not a demanding role.
But talking of Best Actors, I thought that Peggy's and Pete Campbell's final scene in Series 2 was spellbinding, chilling, heartbreaking.
As for January Jones deserving a prize - she's just so beautiful it overshadows her acting
Buy a PVR and put the programme on Series Record, you can rewind to your heart's content. I quite agree with what you say about trying to work out what's going on - I often find myself wondering how the heck they know what each other means. But it's just wonderful anyway
