I do have sympathy for Betty too. She is having to go about the divorce in a calculated way because legally it was very difficult to get a divorce, as the lawyer explained. She is having to jump through hoops to do it. And why shouldn't she divorce Don? He has been living a lie the whole time. In her eyes, he's half a stranger to her.

I have to say the scene when the had to explain to the kiRAB that he was leaving was very well done. It really brought home how hurtful is it to the children. Weird that something as 'common' as divorce has so rarely been portrayed that well.
 
A great episode. Feel sorry for Betty and Don and their kiRAB, but I think it was always going to happen.

I wonder if Peggy will ever tell Pete about their child?
 
That's an interesting different take on it, which could have been a factor also. It does look like the stage is set for Joan's relationship to not go well at any rate.

She neeRAB to be featured more in the show - although on the surface level her role appears like a 'Jessica Rabbit' creation, she is a compelling character and very good actress. As are several of them - some much potential, so little time!
 
This has been a brilliant series - the best I've seen in a long time. Everything about it is of such quality, I can't understand why it didn't get higher viewing figures.

In the last episode there were so many great scenes but one I particularly liked was in the board room when Duck found out Don didn't have a contract with a non-compete clause so could just walk out and start his own agency if he wanted to (and take his clients). I loved Rogers remark "We didn't need a contract. We're close". I think Duck will be gone when series 3 starts as the other company won't want to merge without Don on board.

Another great scene was when Peggy told Pete about the baby. (I think Vincent Kartheiser is brilliant). I'd love to know what happens next with Peggy and Pete.
 
Really? I thought he was very good. He captured very well those old style comedians like Don Rickles or Milton Berle who honed their schtick in the Catskills which during that time was a popular vacation spot for Jewish families. You can spot the jokes coming a mile away and you half-groan at how bad they are.
 
Yes, I was aware of Weiner's wishes, but Lionsgate has pretty much told him they don't care. The story you linked to is from April. More recently a Lionsgate spokesman said they are looking forward to Mad Men being on TV "for many years to come."

Do you watch Supernatural? The creator of that show said for years it would end after five seasons because he had a five-season arc in mind for the show. Well, here we are in season 6 now and Kripke is no longer in charge of the show. Kripke may have had a timetable, but that is irrelevant to the network, and Kripke has walked away. The network is not shutting down a money-maker till it stops making money.

Ya mean Don & Joan haven't got it on yet? I haven't seen the 1st season & assumed that maybe something went on...maybe it'd be too obvious, but it'd be great to see nevertheless!

Don't recall that at all. I would have thought a scene with Peter sleeping with Peggy at her flat would have stood out (unless I fell asleep during an episode). The only scene featuring Peggy in her flat that I remember was when she took home that vibrator thing and tried it out.
 
By the 1960s lynching had become rare in the US, though there were still some isolated incidents. Certainly there was no lynching involving 20,000 people in the 1960s-- it would have been a huge scandal in the television era. If someone has evidence to the contrary please correct me.

There is a famous, horrifying picture of a terrible lynching with a fire in 1916, 50 years earlier, in Waco Texas. A large crowd is present -- it took place in the central square of a town of 25,000.

Yup. Once you've 'achieved' the good marriage, only boredom awaits!

My favourite scenes are with Peggy because despite being talented she doesn't quite know how to clamber up the career ladder other than to ask men for things or hope they'll favour her (omg, Duck :eek:). There are absolutely no precedents or role models to instruct her.
 
She did! At the end of the last series. Pete said, sort of, I love you and I should be with you - and to prove how unavailable she was Peggy told him about the baby and that she had given it away. Pete was pole-axed.

That's how he knew that it wasn't his "fault" that his wife wasn't getting pregnant, and it explains why he was so unwilling to adopt.

I sort of agree with this.

I, too, initially couldn't get away with the portrayal of Pete, and wondered if it was just poor acting, but the more I see of Pete, and bearing in mind his very privileged, monied background from which he comes, I think the portrayal is deliberate. He's quite pompous, and I often want to give him a slap, but I think that's the point.

I've never seen him in anything else to compare with, mind. Though I have read before about him shedding all his possessions ... very odd for Hollywood, and fair play to him.
 
I have Sky and I'm dissapointed by the news. I watch Mad Men US pace but have watched it on BBC HD everyweek anyway. They do a fantastic job with the presentation, better than AMC in America without the commentials and dog tags, I have the first couple of seasons on Blu-ray and there's nothing between them. I dread the idea of watching it and having Dizzy Rascals mug pop up to advertise the latest X-Factor knock off, Don would not approve.
 
I'm sorry but the best reason MM is back on our screens.....the women. Ms Hendricks is amazing for one and I'm sure even women will enjoy watching her as her wonderful curves prove that not every US actress has to be stick-thin to be beautiful. I did see a site - http://www.shortlist.com/women/article/the-women-of-mad-men - where you can see all the women who've featured. I reckon those casting directors have the best job in the world.
