Mad Men.

Southland at times just comes off as a poor man's The Wire at times especially with the guy who played Avon playing basically West Coast Avon :o

I'd much prefer the beat cops to the detectives.

Anyway back to Mad Men I am guessing Christmas soon that should be interesting.

I think that was the idea Laughing Fairy, and they made the line ambiguous just so that you would have to think about it.

They're damn clever, those Mad Men writers!

I'm an avid Mad Men watcher...it is beautifully written and deliciously filmed and I am hooked...I really think the way the characters have developed is awesome...must see TV as far as I am concerned...

Yeah. :)
Her experience really resonates with me. I've seen older female relatives from that generation absolutely filled with pent-up frustration and resentment at not being allowed to achieve in their own right.
In a way it's good that (presumably) younger people watching don't quite 'get' her situation.

As regarRAB last nights episode, its easy to be seduced by Don Draper (I hear!) but lets face it he's more than a bit flawed.

I liked the story with Harry Crane (copywriter) and his pay rise woe.

Sorry folks missed last weeks episode, so a little confused as to what is going on now, has he stolen someones identity in the past? Thanks.

A brilliant finale.
Poor Peggy- was that Pete's baby?

What a classy, fantastic show 10/10. Mad Men and Damages have been the highlights of the TV year :)

Whilst sharing the very same aspirations as you for Don/Betty and Roger/Joan, I don't think Betty's infatuation with Henry is his fantasy at all. I think it's hers and he is deliberately fueling it. Henry is just as much a player as Don - we know next to nothing about him - and, to me, he's spotted Betty is discontented and has moved in for the kill. Whether he'd actually follow through is another matter altogether, let alone consider the questions you quite rightly raise.

He's just as slippery as Don - and that is why I think Betty is (unwittingly) attracted to him.

Joan looked great last night, especially during the scene in which the men were checking out all the women in the office.:)

I think if they had a sex scene between Don and Joan the whole audience would plotz

A good piece about Mad Men by Alison Graham in next week's Radio Times .....

"For flawless perfection of a beautifully cut diamond look no further than Mad Men. It's the most exquisite piece of television I have ever seen.Right from it's Saul Bass-inspired title sequence Mad Men is peerless. But it isn't a thriller, not in the car chase,government-conspiracy sense.
It's about the personnel of a Madison Avenue advertising agency in the early 1960s.Nothing much happens-my favourite episode so far was set at a children's birthday party where the children played and the increasingly drunk adults hypnotically revealed themselves. It was like watching a lovely ballet.
This is what Mad Men does every week...peels away layers. Everyone dresses immaculately, smokes endlessly and drinks far too much.Yet there are corrupted souls beneath those crisp white shirts and cinched dresses. The traffic-stoppingly hanRABome (isn't he just.?..my own worRAB there :o) Jon Hamm is ad exec Don Draper,a war hero with a perfect wife and perfect kiRAB living in the perfect suburbs. yet slowly and quietly week after week, the real Don(if that is even his name) is being shown to us,bit by bit. I'm not sure I can describe how utterly fascinating this is.

Really, it sounRAB like nothing ,and yet Mad Men is everything.

The sad thing is even if Joan got what she wanted (a well-to-do husband and a house in the burbs - Betty's life on the surface) she wouldn't be happy because it wouldn't be enough for her.

Betty's lawyer summed it up at the beginning: "Does he provide for you?"

Dr Greg can't even do that

I hate this show, only twelve episodes, what rubbish! (;))

I couldn't believe when the picture faded to black on Don and Betty. So much left undone. I think they could write the whole of next season if they only used the cliffhanger-storylines in this last episode, enough material there, for sure.

And almost entirely OT; I so would've too done that guy in the bar (if I'd been unmarried or as a revenge f**k [like Betty]).

Killary

I'd say Don's rolling his eyes at the very end confirms it. Rather sad since Roger was saying his great contribution was picking Don, but in fact Don tricked him into it.

Pete is an acquired taste. I think Kartheiser's playing him as someone who was raised in such an elite environment that he doesn't really know how to behave like a regular guy. Remember when we saw his parents in season 1? American old money families, the original preppies, affecting what they take to be aristocratic manners in a society without official aristocrats. Pete seems like he's acting because he was raised to present a certain image to the world.

I'm going to admit to some major shallowness and confess to worshipping Christina Hendricks.

Apparently both plot and dialogue continue to occur while she's on screen...

Sadly I've yet to notice :o:D

Awesome series - awesome final episode

I'm pretty sure Peggy will have the baby adopted - I remember this being a pretty regular occurrence back in the 60s (I can remember the 60s ) I also wondered if Rachel's 'three month trip away' might not be cos she was preg and needed to be able to give birth and have HER baby adopted, then return. Happened SOOO often back then :( Tho' sophisticated women like Rachel usually had access to obstetricians/gynaecologists to 'sort them out' - praps she left it too late. Or I'm just imagining the whole thing !

Re Don 'just driving over to the family' - I didn't quite get the details but it's probably 1000s of miles away (eg California) and he'd need an internal flight at least. Good ole hoooooooje USA!

Thanks again for all the posts - really enjoyed them and they've enhanced the series for me :) Must remember to show my husband the youtube of Pete in 'real life' - he'll be gobsmacked!

Ooh, I want to watch the whole thing all over again now!
