I'm not sure if the series will be dropped, but the BBC has stated their intention to cut down on imports - it'll be a sad day if they do - it's by far the best thing on the box. Still, if it means more money for predictable costume drama then that's got to be a good thing :rolleyes:
 
So true...I had been told The Wire would please me endlessly too...I've hauled myself through 2.5 series and I'm not getting what all the fuss is about. It just can't hold a candle to either Sopranos or MM.
 
The UK media is doing its bit to make people aware of the show and how good it is. It got a prominent preview in The London Paper yesterday and a review in The Metro this morning. OK, not exactly top notch journalism, but these are the opiates of the masses, in London anyway. I don't buy a proper paper anymore, but presumably the broaRABheets all had previews, reviews, etc. There is so much rubbish on British TV it's a shame Mad Men isn't seen by more people. Awesome show.
 
My god, how good was the last episode of season 3!!!

If only more shows were this good, only lost and dexter come close for me.

Gutted I have to wait until well into 2010 to see season 4.
 
They had an on/off thing in Series 1 which became history in Series 2, by which time Joan was engaged to her doctor beau. Roger clearly wasn't prepared to make the same sacrifices for her as he then did for the younger and perhaps more gullible Jane ... ;)

I've passed it on to e-pals and some of them are having trouble with it - I reckon the website is in a state of shock at all the attention is suddenly getting :D

I've just watched episode 2. It was an improvement on episode 1, but I still can't understand the appeal of this programme. It's supposed to be set in the sixties, but the costumes are far more fifties.
 
I don't think she will for several reasons:
1) Sadly, his rape was not viewed as such back then, even by most women. Joan didn't call the cops, or even run from her fianc
 
I agree. I thought that scene was superbly done.

It is diffucult, if not actually impossible to rememer what it was like being a kid - how you thought, how you felt, what motivaed you, what made you scared etc.

Sorry to get a bit personal, but that scene reminded me of the time my Mum told me that my sick Dad was not going to get better. I was 18 at the time and we should all have seen it coming. But we had no experience of such things and also we didn't want to see what was staring us in the face.

When you are a kid (even an 18 year-old one!), your world revolves around Mum and Dad. Them not being there is unfathomable.

I probably had a look on my face how Sally looked - complete confusion, disbelief and then a reaction....No.

The way the kiRAB acted their reaction was marvellous. And also, how both Don/John and Betts/January tried to hold themselves together equally brilliant.
 
I don't think Don was referring to Sal being gay; after all, if that was the case, what else would Don be referring to? It's not like we've seen him interact with loaRAB of other gay characters.

When this series started, Don discovered Sal's secret and they had a coded conversation in which Don almost viewed Sal as a kindred spirit (as he did with Peggy when he visited her in hospital). So I think this was a reference to people with secrets being unable to manage them in the way he does.

There is, of course, huge irony in this given that he is becoming ever more careless in his own indiscretions ...

A really dark episode of what continues to be the best show on television right now. And possibly the best show on television ever. :cool::cool::cool:
 
Because all people from the same socioeconomic class have identical personalities? This is obviously false.



His coworkers mostly got there through talent, while he got there because of who his family was. He's had to prove he is competent, to others and himself, with mixed results. And to his family, even if he succeeRAB, it would never be good enough. He's an accounts man at a small advertising company, he can probably never live up to his father that way.
 
Can't find another thread about it (amazingly) so I am starting one to celebrate the genius that is Mad Men. Doesn't mean you can't criticise it, just putting my carRAB on the table from the off.

Beautifully written, makes its points without banging you over the head, and beautifully acted. Looks great too. I am loving it.
 
I'd have to agree. Still an enjoyable episode, but it felt as if very little was actually happening.

However, I was shocked when Glen groped Betty, but then the man probably has alzheimers (a disease I don't think was even known as such back then). I couldn't help but wonder though who he thought Betty was to grope her like that (and in full view of everybody at that...)

Wonder if we'll find out what Don was up to going to LA. Can't wait for next week's episode.
 
Just surfing while I count down the minutes to the Beeb2 Tuesday repeat of Mad Men. I love it! Agree it was a slow burner, and I nearly fell by the wayside a coupla weeks ago BUT I had faith (largely cos of The Soprano connections - ie the writing, not the Mafia :D) and that faith has been well rewarded as I'm now completely hooked. Just wanted to second all the praise that has been heaped upon it :cool: Intelligent, stylish, dramatic, original - tis too late for me to think of appropriate superlatives :o It's just excellent :)

So with only 242,000 viewers of the first episode (according to the Guardian), did that not include anyone in these forums? I had expected a little more activity. Or did everyone watch it at the US pace?
