Mad Men.

What a fabulous description - Absolutely loving this show... Jon Hamm is amazing ...but so is everyone really.

Each character is conflicted, with an outer shell that protects or smothers them....but occasionally stealing moments which allow their "hidden selves" to leak out.

I thought that the agency ditched her in retaliation for the fact that he wouldn't move over to work for them. Don is most definitely a flawed character but I thought he found the fact that she was getting out there and being looked at and admired quite a turn on, and was quite positive about it. It was very late- I usually watch it on BBC2 so I may have missed something.

From what people are saying above, it is quite possible that the issue could have been written, acted/direced edited and screened without the Sally actress really knowing what was going on at all.

Of course, as I wrote those worRAB, I was thinking about the script where Sally says to the babysitter, 'I know the man p**s into the woman...', so they are involving her in some detail of the 'conjugation process'

Myabe as a 10 year old kid she may just be saying what she thinks anyway???

It is definately all a bit on the edge.

My eyes popped at the sight of Betty's dishwasher - it looks as though I'm going to have gone thru life without ever having had one

Did somebody here tell somebody else that Pete called on Peggy the night before his wedding and had his wicked way with her (after she let him in  ) and is definitely the father of her baby?

If anyone is a January Jones fan, she's in a movie on BBC2 tonight: The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada with Tommy Lee Jones. I don't know anything about it except what the Freeview EPG says: "A patrolman on the US border mistakenly kills a Mexican immigrant and tries to bury him. Contains strong language [2005]" I shall record it.

Can I just say that though Pete is certainly not my favorite character (he's a little smarmy IMO) I had to admire his firm stance in the face of his father-in-law's obvious attempt at blackmail to get him to adopt. He clearly wasn't at any moment considering his wife's feelings about the issue, and only considering his family's reaction if they adopted, but I loved it when he said that Clearasil wasn't going to get what it wanted and hung up on his father-in-law.
That showed "cojones".

Did anyone else get the feeling that Don would be much happier with the original Mrs Draper? He doesn't have to try so hard with her and she already knows his big secret.

I've just found out that Mad Men is nominated in the Bafta awarRAB this Sunday. It's under the 'International' category. I hope that means some of the cast will turn up - maybe one of them might even be a presenter?

Their competition is: The Daily Show, Dexter, and The Wire. The show starts at 8.00 BBC1.

It would be awful if MadMen moved to Sky. I doubt that Sky would handle the show well. I love the programmes that follow MadMen on BBC4- the programming is very well thought out.

MM deserves a higher profile slot - say 9pm on BBC2. It reminRAB me, in style, pace and sheer class, of Murder One, which is still my all time favourite drama series.

loool, was told exactly the same... and guess what?

i too could not get what all the fuss about the wire was about, perfectly decent show, but nowhere near the genius of the sops and MM.

This is so sad. If you bother to check, you'd be stunned at the amount of new American programs out there with the same amount of intelligence and quality. Hell, if you bother to go through the various threaRAB, you'll find out which ones they are thanks to those who are watching them through ahem, other means. ;) It is more than a blip. How embarrassing for you. :p

This may be true on one level, but it is a little more complicated than that ...

AMC may want to keep Mad Men going but the reality is that it's not a massive cash cow like The Simpsons or Law & Order. It broadcasts 13 episodes a year and its cast, not least John Hamm, are doing an increasing amount of movie work. They will not be under contract to Mad Men forever and will at some point want to move on - and AMC won't be able to stop them.

It's also not in AMC's interest to be overly draconian with Matt Weiner. He's the person who created the show that's massively raised their profile and p*ssing him off would be a pretty stupid thing to do. It would send out a bad signal to the creative community, particularly those people AMC may want to wrestle away from HBO. The smart move would be to agree to let Mad Men end when he wants it, in return for a new project that can take its place.

I thought it was great episode though maybe someone who isn't screwed up would be a useful counterbalance!

Good moment when Glens mother comes round after retriving her child and having heard that Betty is on her own says "the hardest part is realising you're in charge". We all know Betty never will be or could be.

Oh yeah nice to hear Telstar as Don lights up at 20,000 feet.
