Macromedia Flash MX how do i keep lines from joining eachother when i move them?

im trying to make a flash animation in Flash MX but everytime i move a line to move the character if it
overlaps another line they join? is there an option where i can turn this off?? also, if you know, do you
know how to make a character disappear and then reappear in certain frames??
