Mac VS. PC

If you break down a Mac and buy all the components to build a comparible PC seperatly, including the full-featured software Macs come with and the OS, you have a better deal with the Mac in the end.

They're no longer the overpriced machines they were once touted as being. They come with a 3+ button mouse now. They have practically every comparible program the PC has, a lot of which is free in most cases. And when you need that one PC program you can run XP/Vista next to OSX with a program called Parallels running in Coherence mode.

What your gaining over Windows is better security, overall build quality, a deeper and feature rich OS out of the box and a machine that will last you twice as long as the PC you build just to run Vista at it's best. OSX has had all those features for at least 5 years now.
 
i like all the keyboard shortcuts on my macbook, it's blazing fast compared to my desktop

however i have everything on my desktop setup to how i like, so some things i'd rather do on my desktop compared to my macbook, like rip and burn dvds
 
Don't buy a Mac if you like gaming though

I use and like both, but i'm mostly on my desktop. It's easier for me to work with PCs since i'm a long time PC user. Macs are still fun though. Back in the day I couldn't stand them, but the new intel Macs are nice!

Anyways, he is totally right. I had my iBook g3 for 4 years, used it every day and carried it with me all over. I'm only 16 right now, so that means I got it when I was 12. It lasted me that entire time, and the few problems Apple picked up completely because I bought the ACPP (which you have to buy if you go Apple. For the extra 100-200 dollars it's totally worth the extra money).

My sister then used it for about 6 months, when the logic board finally crapped out because she dropped it.

I'm now on a Macbook Pro and absoultely love it. My parents have a Mac Mini, and we're looking into a refurb Macbook for my sister. Also the majority of my friends have all bought Macs because of the ease of use and how easy it is to use and the wide range of support. And the one's that haven't are waiting until Early Augest to get the biggest upgrades they can before going to College.

Plus, as stated above if you need any windows specifc programs just use Boot Camp or Parallels.


Oh and they look drop-dead gorgeous
 
Boot Camp FTW!!!! I've had no problems with Half Life, Counterstrike, Battlefield etc. And I'm downloading FEAR and Half Life 2 to give them both chances right now.

And once programs like crossover start supporting more apps, you can run Windows games right on your macintosh desktop.
 
Which windows youre talking about? Vista?

If Vista then no, youre wrong.

Vista have far better security than OSX 10.4 (I dont know about 10.5) but if you know how secuirty works, you know Vista's Shell is far more secure than OSX (which is based on unix).

Another fact: Vista manage RAM far better than OSX. With Superfetch and readyboost, vista is BLAZING fast. Its not a gimmick, you can get speeds 60% faster with 2gb SD card for ~20 bucks.

And on the last note which is pointless....Yes Vista did copy stuff from OSX (If you count in development time, remember Vista was in development for 5 years, while OSX have 'semi releases' every 1.5 years) See the feature in 10.0, 10.1, 10.2, 10.3 and 10.4.

In the end, it really depends what you want.
 
Well, when it comes to security and viruses lets just look at each OS's track record in the public. OSX > XP and probably Vista.

Haven't used a final version of Vista long enough to see how it handles RAM. Both OS's have issues with software and memory leaks, but for the past few years OSX has had better memory management than Windows.

Vista was pushed back so many times, each time a truely great feature was dropped. Obviously OSX had the ideas in the cue before Vista did because it takes time to program and implement them.
 
yeah maybe if you paid full retail msrp for all your components at bestbuy. talk to any competent pc builder and they will easily build you a superior pc system for the same price

that said, macs are still nice though for the everyday typical computer user
 
OMG, you are talking out your ass so bad it doesn't even justify a detailed response. Vista is more secure than XP yes, but as long as MS sticks with it's current core design, it will never be as secure as OSX, not in XP, not in Vista.

ill stick with them, There is not one god damn reason in the world to switch to a Mac. If you know how to post on this message board, then you should be computer literate enough to NEVER get a virus.

I run adaware and spybot every week, its been YEARS since either of them have found anything.

"If you cant find the program for Mac, Bootcamp XP and run it." - thats great, ill just stick with the pc then.
 
Sure thing...

OSX does not have memory randomization....vista does.
OSX does not have stack randomization....vista does.
OSX does not have section reordering....vista does.
OSX does not have dll randomization....vista does.
OSX does not have local variable protection...vista does.

Now if you want to argue vista have more "holes" than OSX..go ahead, but you back it up with these so called 'holes'. Fact is Vista is such a new OS than any exploits are not known yet, in 5 years maybe vista will be as insecure as XP....but the way OSX is rising, i doubt they have a free ride anymore.

What OSX does have is "Secuity by obscurity"....but thats not really secuirty is it?


I'll await your response...and I have no clue as to what you mean by "current core design"....please explain.
 
Yes I understand that OSX has more security because its a niche market and coding malware/virus for them is a waste of time, but OSX is not more secure because of the framework...not by far (If comparing to Vista).

Also understand that OSX can crank out new stuff and updates exponentially faster than Microsoft can due to the closed hardware issue. Microsoft can have an idea, and Appple can steal it and implement it onto OSX faster than microsoft can because Microsoft have to test it on a ton of hardware, but Apple does not.

One example I will give is the widgets application on OSX, which was introduced in Tiger...which came out in early 2005. Microsoft already have this in development in May of 2002 on thier alpha releases. Yet MS got tagged with "copying" OSX. Now dont get me wrong, im not saying Apple "stole" the idea from MS...im just saying its not as simple as saying "LOL WE HAD THAT 5 YEARS AGO" as some mac zealots (God I hate them) say.
 
It was my understanding that Apple approched the creators of Konfabulator to buyout their software and were turned down. Apple went and created their own version.

I'm sure MS might've been in the same boat.
