Lumps in the front of my throat/neck?

Hi everyone,

I have been looking all over the internet for this and can't find any answers. The past 2-3 weeks, I have had these two "lumps" in the front of my neck...probably between the midline and the where the head starts. It's definitely above where the ADam's apple is on men. The two "lumps" look like circles, almost like marbles. They are symmetric which leads me to wonder if they are just one long lump, and right in the middle of the throat/neck area. It doesn't feel like they are hard...I can press in that area and I think they move a little (hard to tell). When I swallow they seem to contract. One side feels uncomfortable, it's not really a pain but i can feel a sort of "soreness".

What gland is there? Is that the location of any lymph nodes? And could this be something serious?

I'd like to add I had a cold about a month ago that lasted a good 2 weeks. Even up to a week ago, I had this musacy taste in the back of my throat, although I don't really notice that now. I'm just paranoid it's something bad, but I don't want to go to the doctor since I was just there a week ago for something else, and a month before that due to a UTI.

Can anyone help me? Scared!

Hi, There are nodes in the throat/neck, exactly where I can't say but anytime you feel a lump, it's always important to get it checked out. Having recently been to a doctor doesn't matter and especially since it's for an entirely different matter. Doctors appreciate patients who take an active role in their health. Make an appointment and get it checked. Remember, the fear is very often MUCH worse than the problem. God-bless.

Hello there! There are many, many nodes in the neck, and it's very normal for them to swell at times, especially if you are sick or have allergies. Even pressing on them can enlarge them, so try to avoid feeling them too often. Just keep an eye on them and feel them once per day at the most. Nodes should be able to move a little bit (they sort of slide around a tiny bit) and shouldn't be rock-hard. Many of them are around pea-sized, but in general, 2 cm or smaller. You will notice that many are symmetical.

My fiance recently felt some nodes on him that he wasn't sure about and had a CT scan and talked to his doctor about it. I've heard ALL about them and found out that feeling them or seeing them is quite normal. Just make sure it isn't getting much larger, or then I'd definitely get it checked out. Just try not to touch them (although I know it's hard to not touch when worried), because that can cause them to be sensitive/sore and a little swollen.

I think it's likely just swollen glands from the cold you had and nothing to worry about. Just monitor them! I can't tell exactly which part you are looking at without seeing you point to it, but there are many, many nodes in the neck.

I don't quite understand the position either, but could it be your thyroid gland? You may have a goiter. My daughter had a thyroglossal duct cyst, I won't go into it but it's not serious, it presented as a large lump on the front of her neck. Could certainly be swollen lymph glands from your recent infection. Whatever, I agree with luvdgs have it checked.

Your doctor can definitely feel your neck and let you know if anything looks out of the ordinary. Just keep in mind that the only way to surely tell if anything is enlarged is to get a CT scan of the area. Then, the next stop is a biopsy to take a look at the cells to make sure nothing bad is going on. A regular doctor would be the first step to let you know if anything looks abnormal and if you would need to look into anything else.
