Lump in wrist

I have a lump on the pinky side of my wrist. It is about an inch down from the bottom of my hand. It's about the size of a nickle. The lump itself is painless but my wrist is a little sore. I have a doctor appt for Monday, but wondered if anyone knew what it could be in the meantime. I'm nervous about it.

It sounds like a ganglion cyst, which is not dangerous. Medical treatment, aspiration or surgical removal, most often is only a temporary fix. The cyst returns about 70% of the time. In folklore, they're known as "bible bumps", because smashing them with a large book was a pretty successful "treatment" in those days. That treatment is frowned upon now, mostly because other damage - like broken bones - can be done from the bashing.

Hi, I agree with the above reply. I had the same thing and it was diagnosed as a ganglion cyst. It was drained, but returned within 3 weeks, and just like you the lump was painless, but the wrist pain was finally getting in the way of me doing normal stuff, so it was removed surgically. The procedure was done under local anesthesia and I was awake, and if I could do it over again, I would definitely ask for a sedative or to be put completely under, lol! It has been 3 years and it seems to be coming back again, but very slowly, and the wrist pain hasn't returned. Good luck!
