lump in groin area and its oozing

Hello all, this is my first time encountering something like this, and need some advice..

four days ago I noticed a small lump near my groin area, I didnt think nothing of it so i left it as it is.

the next day the lump grew larger and started getting really painful and i started getting concerned, I booked an appointment with my doctor to get it checked immediatly, thinking it was cancer.

the doctor ruled out cancer immediatly when he noticed a boil on it, he gave me some oral antibiotics along with advil to control the pain and was told it should go down in a few days.

now today when I was taking a shower, after drying myself with my towel I noticed blood near that area, and there was pus oozing out of the wound (its really disgusting)

i applied a guaze over it, changed it a few times alreay but the oozing still continues.., I read a few articles on the net and it seems like the boil has opened up.

my questions are,

how long does it take for the oozing to stop?
and what should i do other than putting gauze over it to control it?
is it a good thing or bad thing for the wound to start oozing?

the plus side is the pain started to gradually go away as the pus started comming out.

any advice?
 
Gently press on both sides next to the boil and express the pus, wiping it away with clean wipes. This will speed the drainage. Do not let it close completely until it is completely drained out and dry, or it will fester under the skin. The bad pain is caused by the pressure of the inflammation and build up of pus, so once that can escape, the relief is incredible. It probably started out as an infected hair root, so keep the area clean and dry. Cheers, Sera.
 
My mother and brother get these probably more than they should. It's good that it is oozing because that's all the bacteria that is coming out of the wound. Do as Seraph said and get al the puss out before it close.
 
You can apply warm compresses just to help everything seep out. i know that you're on atibiotics but you can also apply a cream that you can pick up without prescription called bactroban it is an antibacterial cream and will just help the boil heal sooner.
You should not leave the gauze on constantly because it's best for the boil and skin around it to breathe.
 
Hello all,

I followed up with my doctor today, he determined it was a Carbuncle. He told me to sit in warm water for about 10 minutes 2-3 times a day, to speed drainage.

He also told me, theres no way 100% of the pus will come out, if theres at least 90% of the pus out I should be fine as the antibiotics will kill the rest of it.

I took a good look at it today, the lump is virtually gone and I only see a spec of the white stuff on it.

I applied an antibiotic ointment called fudicin and wrapped it with gauze, i left a little opening for it to breathe. I will provide an update tommorow.
