Hi I'm Alwyn, I'm 42, just had my L1 S5 fused on Friday 19th of Noveraber, came out on the Monday 6 days ago, still in allot of pain, can only walk to the kitchen and back a couple of times a day and have a shower and thats about it, I feel really down and weepy, how long will it take to recover from this op, I'm have scoliosis and spinal degeneration disease, my spine was really crooked but since the op I now seem to be straight so that was a surprise, hoping this is normal....oh and I cant sit, Alwyn

Hi Alwyn. Please don't be discouraged. It is still very early in your recovery and time is the best healer. Just be sure to follow all your doctors orders, including restricting sitting time to about 15 minutes. Another important thing is to walk as much as you can as that will help your back muscles to strengthen, promote the fusion process, and keep scar tissue loose and supple.

Resting is important as well, so be careful not to overdo and don't push too hard. Sitting right after a fusion is usually very uncomfortable, so don't be alarmed; you may be able to sit in a recliner if it is reclined. If you still have questions or feel that things aren't right, give your doctor a call. That's what he is there for!

Blessings.

Thank you so much, this forum is an excellent idea, hearing other people testimonies really explained what I am in for, quite a shock when I realised it will be three to six months, at least now I know what to do now and that its normal to feel this way regarRAB Alwyn
