I have had 2 disectomys in the past 4 months. Had a large bulging disc diagnosed in July last year, 3 epidurals later the nasty pain had gone away in the left leg, however was left with severe weakness in left leg. Had another mri and the bulging disc got worse, had ruptured over the nerve completely.

First op went well and spent 5 weeks rehabilitating doing resting/walking etc. All was going well until 2 months post op and leg pain was back after more disc material found its way onto the nerve.

Am now 5 weeks post 2nd op, have had some backache, and mostly uncomfortable sensations in the left foot. Am off the medication but it feels like its a timeborab waiting to go off again.

My main concern (at this point) is that I always have had a nurab heel since the original episode. That got worse when I had the relapse again and although its been less nurab after the second op its still loss of sensation. Whats worrying me now is that in the last couple of days I get pain (not just nurabness) in the heel just from walking on it? Am hoping thats not a bad sign - apparently chances of having a relapse in the first 3 months were very slim, now im wondering if something is happening again :/

Anyone have a similar story?

Hi. Whoever told you that having a relapse in the 1st 3 months was slim, was incorrect. Just the opposite. It's VERY VERY easy to herniate period and especially for the 1st 3 -6 months.

That sounRAB like it is defintely nerve related (your heel pain). As to whether or not you are having new disc issues I dont know, but it sounRAB like you may be headed for either ADR or fusion on that disc.

It could be that your disc is fine and your nerve could be waking up and causing you that pain, or just the opposite and that disc is acting up again and pressing back on that nerve.

I didnt have nerve entrapment where I am fused. But due to the doctor working on my left side during the surgery, I now have some permanent nerve damage that effects my left leg/ankle/foot. It very slight compare to many, but it still exists. Two spine surgeons have confirmed that the damage is permanent at this stage.

My heels occasionally feel bruised and then it can travel to other parts of my feet, sometimes they feel like they are being squeezed, etc. These are not often and they can appear for no reason and go the same way.

I would definitely let your surgeon know what's going on with you and having new nerve issues. I hope you feel better and please keep us posted.

Well I was told by my surgeon that the odRAB are 1 in 100 of having a relapse in the first 3 months.

Whats annoying is that I took it really easy for that period and was doing everything i was meant to - walking, resting, physio, no lifting, bending etc etc, it seemed to get better completely then one day I started to get a nurab heel/toes again which was the warning sign it was coming back - I was told that it was nothing that I did to cause this, sometimes it just happens.

The heel pain has gone away today - however for some reason over the last 2-3 days the loss of feeling in the heel sensation is more than it was before, im praying that its nothing wrong and nothing is pressing on the nerve again.

If anyone has any questions about lurabar microdisectomys pls feel free as im more than happy to share my experiences.
