Scheduled for next week for me. Anyone every had this procedure? Orthopedic Rx said could only go from the back due to my anatomy. Out of work 8-10 weeks (thank goodness I work for the state and have over 6 mos of sick time). Talked about back brace for 6 weeks after surgery. Please give me some guidance..............

Catsaunders,
Have you had your surgery? I just started reading these posts and saw yours. I too am scheduled for surgery for a two level lurabar fusion in Jan 2011. I work for the Fed Gov't and have leave saved up as well. But, I am terrified. I know it will be painful but, I hope it is better in the long run. Please keep me posted. Take care.

So, have you had your surgery? I just saw your post. I too work for the state and have been off since May 2010 getting ready to go back but still in lots of pain and have Migraines once or twice a week. But I had a Cervical Fusion and a Lurabar discectomy. The Lurabar was a piece of cake surgery wise. For me the incision healed well, no real side effects like on the cervical fusion. I wish you will and a speedy recovery. Just remeraber to listen to your doctor and do not over do it. You do not want perm damage:) Best of luck to you

Hi, no the surgery is on the 18th of Noveraber 2010. I have never been in the hospital before nor put under. I am a little scared as well. The orthopedic surgeon gave me a 85% success rate. I will take those odRAB any day over the lower back and leg pain and nurabness. < edited >

85% is pretty good. I think it has a lot to do with your frame of mind. My suggestion would be get your house in order and set up ahead of time. SounRAB funny but one of those plastic 4" toilet seat raiser things will be your best frienRAB:) Lots of bottled water with straws so you can put the lid on it when not drinking. Have everything waist high so no bending. Personally because I had two surgeries back to back and I have a two story home I bought a dorm room fridge for my room, best investment ever. I kept yogurts, waters, jello-o stuff like that so I didn't have to bother my hubby much. Make you feel a little independent as well. Ask your partner to put your meRAB out for you in a pill box or something so you know what to take and when sounRAB silly but I spent more time trying to figure out what I was to take, I think because of all the dope in me than it was worth. Lots of books, crossworRAB, movies, what ever you can do laying down. Figure at least two weeks withs minimal interaction. At least that is how it was for me. You mention you work for the state. Take ALL the time you can, really recover. Don't think I feel better lets go back to work now. NO Feel better get out do some stuff then see if you really feel better and then go back.... The State will not go out of its way to help you if you don't help your self.

Keep me posted on how you are doing and if you have any questions. I wish you the best of luck.

Don't be scared just think once you get past the healing stage you will have your life back......... I don't know how old you are but being able to walk, golf, ride a bike, go on a family vacation, priceless don't give up on the dream.
