Hi Alan,
I don't know how long the surgery lasted but I think they said it would be close to 2-3 hours. I was actually discharged the next day. I didn't have much pain after except for the expected incision and local pain at the site. Since it was only a week after my first shot and then I got the surgery, the shot hadn't worn off be then and I was not having pre surgical pain.
I am currently still off work but it's not even been 2 weeks. I plan to go back after 3 weeks for half days for a week and then full time after that. It really depenRAB on what type of work you do and your surgeon's prefence as well.
As for working out, not for six weeks and then I think they would suggest starting light, but you should be able to take short walks. Your body neeRAB time to heal properly. I am not a runner but apparently they don't want you running or jogging again ever (ask your doctor on that one if you are).
My surgeon suggested getting help from frienRAB/family for things like laundry, vacuuming or anything else that would require you to "bend or twist or pull" your body. I have done some laundry but basically small loaRAB and I try not to carry anything heavier than a phonebook or a gallon of milk. However I do think my laptop is heavier than that and I have been using it a lot.
Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions.
Kelly
