Luken to launch new kids network

I just see pretty much any new childrens network or any new networks who air animation or programming geared toward children as ending up in some premium cable package that costs over $100 or something and never being able to gain a fanbase or a substantial piece of the market. I could be wrong, but Nick, CN and Disney seem to be the 'big three' of childrens programming and I don't see some new up and coming network changing that, not for a looooong time at least.

Isn't there going to be some Hasbro childrens channel coming sometime soon too? It's getting crowded out there.
 
Is RTV the channel that played the old Hulk series Friday nights? If so I think my brother watches that channel. Sorry for going way off topic there, but I wonder what kind of programming PBJ will have?
 
I'd like another primarily retro cartoons channel, but seeing as how Boomerang airs anything it can, from Flintstones to Courage the Cowardly Dog, it's doubtful they could jump into that market with anything worthwhile. Also like Nicktoons Network, if they want to survive they have to show plenty of new shows as a new network, so it'll probably prominently feature new programs. And I welcome it because who knows, maybe it could be a serious competitor if it launches the next SpongeBob. It could take everything CN, Nick, and Disney does right and try to do it one better while avoiding everything they've done wrong. A new channel's worth more of original animation is bound to churn out something worth watching. I wish PBJ good luck.
 
A children's network from the folks behind Retro Television? Could be good. Classic animation and kids-friendly programs. Wonder who they'll actually contact to bring in programming for PBJ considering a lot of the good stuff is already owned by Time Warner, Viacom, and Disney. Considering what RTV shows on their networks, it's probably not going to be a problem in finding programming choices.

And besides, classic shows need to be seen these days. And broadcast television is as good a place for them. Now, if only some of these local outlets around here pick up RTV. Heck, my NBC and FOX affiliates have a secondary digital channel that just airs NBC and FOX (and to make matters worse, the two FOX channels are right beside each other).
 
Yeah, children's programs seem to be missing from these nostalgia/retro digital networks (RTN, Chicago and Milwaukee's "MeTV", etc.), beyond the minimum E/I requirements. Would be nice to see this channel gets whatever cartoons are still actually available for syndication...

Classical cartoons, huh? It excites me, but leaves me wondering, like others, what they could possibly show. Anything Disney, MGM, Warner Bros, and Hanna-Barbera is off limit. Who owns the UPA cartoons? Maybe some Paramount cartoons like Woody the Woodpecker, or Rocky & Bullwinkle? I think anything else would be too obscure for kids to like.

PBJ obviously won't be competing with the big 3, but since it's young, I think it will probably end up being good. However, I guarantee if it gets popular enough, it'll just go down the drain. That's what happened with Nick, Disney, and Cartoon Network, all to seperate degrees of course.
 
I wasn't saying Rocky & Bullwinkle were owned by Paramount, I guess it was just poor use of grammar on my part. I didn't know about Woody, though. But are either of them still able to be aired legally by PBJ?

But yeah. I think they'll easily get shows from companies with larger libraries but no readily-available broadcasting outlet like Corus, Nelvana, Sony, and maybe Cookie Jar. And considering RTV has arrangements with companies like NBC Universal, they could even bring in more to any new endeavors they make considering, you know, a lot of companies aren't in any rush to make use out of their older libraries.
 
Hmm, so Woody Woodpecker (*not* "Woody the Woodpecker") could still be a possibility for this channel... along with some of Corus subsidiary Nelvana's shows that aren't on Qubo/PBS/Cartoon Network (Beetlejuice? Braceface IIRC?), and Sony (not sure what they own; anybody know?).
