...her backyard. Two of Lucy’s frien? Lucy wants to plant a flower garden, which consists of daisies and roses, in her backyard. Two of Lucy’s friends own a flower shop of their own in town. They sell flowers at the same price rate but in different quantity combinations in a package. One friend, Sandra, agrees to sell Lucy 5 daisies and 5 rose bushes for a total of $30. Lucy’s other friend, Julie, agrees to sell her 5 daisies and 10 rose bushes for a total of $50. Lucy needs at least 50 daisies and at least 100 rose bushes. She is limited to 10 yards of garden space in which to plant the daisies and the rose bushes. Each daisy takes up 1 inch, and each rose bush takes up 2 inches of garden space. In addition, each friend also offers to loan Lucy some of her workers at a reduced price. Sandra charges Lucy $5 for each worker that Lucy borrows from her, while Julie charges Lucy $4.50 for every worker that Lucy borrows from her. Lucy needs at least 3 workers to plant a single daisy plant and at least 2 workers to plant each rose bush. She has to spend at least $40 on workers in order to receive the discount and only have to pay the reduced price offered by Sandra and Julie. What is the combination of daisies and rose bushes that would maximize Lucy’s expenses? What is the maximum amount Lucy can spend on her garden?
