Lucky Luke Movie

Plus Lucky Luke dates back to the 1940s. At least Luke stopped smoking!

anyway I just realised some of you may have no idea what is going on in that trailer.

To make it short Lucky Luke, while pursuing the Daltons who are on their latest crime spree meets a group of settlers. Those settlers all bought lands in California from a dirty promoter who tell them that if they don't go and claim the lands in 80 days the sales are cancelled (obviously with no refund)... so Lucky Luke accepts (probably for free, knowing him) to escort the west-bound settlers through the dangerous wild west. Things get messy as the Dalton, apparantly along for the ride, are looking for some loot they've hidden somewhere within the convoy and with the promoter trying to get rid of Lucky Luke.
 
I recall two Lucky Luke films available on VHS in the 80s: Daisy Town and The Ballad of the Daltons. I haven't seen them in forever, but I remember one being quite funny.




If it's of Lucky Luke then I'm sold.
 
I know some European companies dislike America because of how much American movies dominate over there and make it hard for homegrown stuff to be made, so maybe they feel like it wouldn't do well over here.

I always prefered Ballad of the Daltons over Daisy Town.

Daisy Town has this new town (Daisy Town) at the center of it with Luke trying to protect it from the Daltons, somehow ending up as a bad guy to the people of the city. Lots of square dancing :p

Ballad of the Daltons has the Daltons trying to take revenge on the jury that condemned their uncle (or something) to death in order to get his inheritence. Lucky Luke decides to follow them, supposedly as an observer, but he actually want to trick them into believing their did kill them while saving the jury members.

Nonetheless, that looked fun! A different art style that, well, just about anything I've seen lately. Well, maybe for the past decade or something Highly active animation, panoramic, a few cheap sight gags.... If it does come stateside, I'll be there.
 
So, you think they'll release this on Canadian DVD? There is a way to order it online from Canada if there is, right? I checked out Amazon.com, and found the "new adventures of Lucky Luke" with English and French tracks that look like they're Canadian. I might just pick that up.
 
The movie will be released all over the province on December 21st so off course this movie will have a R1 release. There's plenty of places to order it from in Canada too.
 
I'm a native french speaker too so allow me to translate the first clip:

Joe: We have to get out of here. A gun, if only I had a gun!
Averell: Here you go Joe *hands him a pink gun*
Joe: What's that?
Averell: It's a gun! I made it myself in soap!
Joe, Jack and William : *stare*
Averell: Well I think it really resembles the model.
Joe: Model?! What model?!
Averell: The one Ma hid in the pie she brough us. I've been working in it for three weeks! It's not easy to carve soap, it's really slippery.
Joe: *Jumps on Averell* THREE WEEKS! HE'S HAD A GUN FOR THREE WEEKS! I'LL MAKE HIM EAT HIS SOAP GUN! I'LL SHOW HIM SLIPPERY!
 
That particular scene is actually adapted from the comics. It's from the story were Ratataplan inherits a fortune. Joe is trying to come up with a way to escape and Averell shows him the model he carved in soap.
 
Sorry to bump this, but it was actually this thread that got my interest piqued in this franchise in the first place. :D

As many of you have expressed interest in this movie, it may interest you to know that the Region 1 DVD has recently been released in Canada, and it includes an English dub! (The menus are in French, but they're easy enough to navigate - and there's a reversable English cover, even.)

I myself, after reading this thread, later discovered that a semi-obscure cable channel was running some random episodes of The New Adventures of Lucky Luke (yup, in English) so I checked it out and became quite taken with it. Since then, I've managed to track down all the DVD volumes, and now this movie has just been released. So Chris, DrTooth, CartoonSage (if you guys are still around), and anyone else interested, enjoy!
 
I really hope franchises like Lucky Luke get their due soon. After putting up with God-Awful stuff Like Billy and Mandy and all the CGI in this country, I hope the dvd publishers will notice toons like this.
 
I've been meaning to buy this movie... I'm going to the mall tomorow so maybe I should pick it up!

Went and bought it as I said, but haven't had the time to watch it. I'll share my thoughts when I do!

EDIT: Okay that movie was AWESOME!

It was hilarious, filled with puns, slapsticks action, sight gag, fun characters, and all the usual things you expect from a Lucky Luke movie! The animation was GORGEOUS! The backgrounds were bright, lush with colors and all beautifully made! Some of those landscape scenes just blew me away...and my little bedroom TV is crappy as all heck! I can't begin to imagine how impressive it must look on a good TV. The marriage of 2D and 3D cell shaded animation is impeccable and flows surprisingly well! The plot is fun. moves along at a nice pace and offer plenty of nice scenes. There also a cameo of Lucky Luke's late creators in the form of two hotel clerks (the short one is Goscinny and the tall one Morris BTW) and from characters that come from an old production of producer Marc Du Pontavice (I'm not telling which one but I'm sure a few here would get a hoot out of that little surprise ;) ).

I listened to the English dub and it was very good! A nice quality work that worked quite well.

All in all, if you really like 2D animation and are starving for a new movie in that style I urge you to go order this DVD!
 
Yeah, I think Balllad of the Daltons was the one I really liked. Was there a scene in a mine? Seems to me Daisy Town was less comedic and sort of surreal. One of them I think ended with a huge musical number.

If you're an expert on the subject, can you tell us more about Lucky Luke's animated history? Wasn't there a TV series in the 80s also?

Almost none of the animated stuff reached the US. I did have a bunch of the comics though. Great fun.
