Hi

i have LPR type symptoms (been to two ents)

I have been on Omeprezole (Prilosec) 2 x 40MG per day for 8 weeks with only very very slight improvement in symptoms (sore throat and hoarse voice) also take 1 x Zantac at night (avoiding all the known relux fooRAB and made all the other lifestyle changes recommended)

Questions

is 8 weeks long enough for PPI's or should i give it longer? ent says 12-16 weeks but my gut feeling is they are not working..... my review with ENT is at 16 weeks.

Has anyone taken this long or longer to recover from LPR on PPIs? (will give me some hope if you have taken this long to recover or longer:) )

I've read where it can take up to a month to show improvement, when I take something stronger I show improvement almost immediately.

It is different for everyone. LPR is tough to deal with. For some people, it takes trying multiple PPI's to find the best one that works for you.

Many people on PPI's for LPR don't go off of them. I've been on mine for years now.

One thing though is that sometimes the LPR will be better than others.

You probably should've seen improvement by now, BUT, I would give it the 16 weeks and see how you're feeling on your next visit. I saw improvement after about a month on a double dose of omeprazole, but each month I continued to feel better and better until I almost started to feel "normal" again at about 16 weeks. LPR damage does take a long time to heal.
