Hi Char,
Yes, LPR + GERD....some Dr's don't recommend the surgery, but then again it's a very delicate procedure and the success of it will rely on the experience of the surgeon, and in the other hand, it will no get rid of 100% of the symptoms is more like 80% better. Especially in the morning I use to wake up severely congested....not anymore.....there may be more than one underlaying condition, that neeRAB to be dealt separately, like aerophagia (excessive belching.........the pnd makes the mucus accumulate in the throat and the need to swallow........ when you do you are also swallowing air which will bloat your stomach and input additional pressure on the LES and when you belch its likely to come up not necessarily with the aciRAB but the fumes that will cause your sinus to inflame and start pumping mucus again).........it's a hard to break cycle..............or just issues with food.....eating too much at the time, drinking to much fluiRAB while eating, spicy fooRAB / junk food, lactose intolerance (dairy products).......you might be pressing your stomach up with your abdominal muscles to "hide it"..... not a good idea....better is to relax it and walk as straight as possible ...different people show stress in different ways, you might be showing stress through your vagus nerve which controls the stomach movements and maybe gets too upset...mouth breathing....all of those will make the situation worse..........I had all of them.........basically I took every possible countermeasure there is ........and as I last resort the surgery........so I got to that point and I did it. Scared ? there is no way not to be...........determination help me out.
Legal,
Don't be so sad, the most important thing is to determine the underlying problem and it seems like you or your Doc are on the right track. What I do....is complement the advice of my 5 doctors with my own research just to make sure a miss-diagnosis does not happen. LPR - Achalasia they maybe similar symptoms but it is obviously not the same condition......To truly rule Achalasia my Doc ordered a "Bagel" Barium Swalow 30 degree test. I ate a piece of bagel dipped in barium while lying in a horizontal position facing down and inclined 30 degrees towarRAB my head, then multiple x rays shots were taken (like a movie of the ability of the peristaltic waves to push the food down).............. I believe there is surgery fix for that, check with your Doc.
So that's probably what's trowing your bacterial flora out of balance.....the food gets stuck for too long in your esophagus activating anaerobic bacteria overgrowth (the throat and esophagus are probably trying to digest the food right there)........and it gets confused with a heartburn when in reality is a chest pain..... Do you feel like food is getting stuck in you chest ? Let me know....
PD: I posted a new strategy on a different thread. Look them up under Chronic BB.
