I am desperate for some help with my lower back... three years ago i had to have a d&c for some female complications. the surgery was outpatient and everything went fine. approximately two weeks following the surgery i began to have EXCRUCIATING pain in my lower back. I have a very high tolerance for pain - in fact sometimes i think its too high because i let things go too long before seeking help. however, i couldn't lay flat, bend over, sleep comfortably AT ALL.... so i called the doctor. the only thing i could relate it to was the surgery and the position i had to be in for the procedure.
I am an avid walker / slow jogger... when i would walk, the pain subsided a little bit, but never went away... the doctor that performed the surgery said that it more than likely was not from that procedure. i went to an orthoped and he sent me for an mri. all it showed was some arthritis in the lower portion of my spine but not bad... my next step was physical therapy. i went to a well known physical therapist. he said it was my piroformis muscle. some of the exercises and stretches helped - localizing the pain spot and doing deep massage helped the most, but it has all been temporary. i've had deep tissue massage that helped for a couple of days but it always comes back. (i went to physical therapist off and on for a year or more) i slept for a year flat on my back with a big pillow under my knees - this probably is when it feels the best - but never goes away. i am sleeping on an air mattress because i can't tolerate other mattresses.
I can't sit, bend over, sneeze (OMG), stand, exercise, etc.... without this spot killing me. i am desperate and want some input. I TRULY think that something was dislocated during that surgery. it feels like when i bend over or turn my torso that a muscle gets bound up with something and on the return move has to stretch over and snap back into place - THIS IS PAINFUL!!! I wish i could describe it better.
advil doesn't help - i even took a vicadin one time from a friend that had shoulder surgery and that didn't seem to make a difference. i would love to hear if anyone has experienced anything like this..
