I've been on 30mg twice a day for severe GERD that landed me in the hospital. (I thought it was an asthma attack but it turned out that my breathing is being made much worse by the reflux)

I've been on prevacid twice a day for almost three weeks and my breathing is MUCH better but I'm having really bad lower back pain. My Dr. says that the prevacid doesn't cause this and to keep taking it.

Anyone else have any experience like this with prevacid??

I have been on Prevacid for a little over (3) months - and I have been getting severe lower back pain off and on. I guess I did not connect it - but maybe it could be?

Hi Vanessa,

How are you doing? It seems that we both post on some of the same threaRAB. I have been having this really severe back pain for a week now and I stopped the prevacid two days ago to see if there would be any improvement in my pain, but I don't know if that's long enough to know or not.

I wound up on the prevacid after being admitted to the hospital with what I thought was an asthma attack, but turned out to be severe reflux that was affecting my lungs and sinuses (according to the ENT specialist that I saw)

I know you've had breathing issues as well, I'm curious if you've had any improvement on the prevacid. My breathing got dramatically better about 2 1/2 weeks after I started the prevacid and I'm on 30mg twice a day. I'm just worried that this back pain issue is somehow connected, because I generally get weird side effects from meRAB.

I bet that your back pain is due to the diovan. I had horrible back pain on both cozaar and benicar which are in the same class of meRAB. You might want to check with your Dr. about it.

This is only day three off of the prevacid, but I think I'm going to take it tonight - I really, really don't want to have that terrible shortness of breath feeling that I was having from the reflux. I have a follow-up with a sinus specialist in a few weeks at Northwestern University (Chicago) to try to get my sinus issues resolved.

All of these physical ailments are really wearing me down, I was supposed to start a new job this week, but I can hardly function with this back pain, so I had to call in sick before I even started which is not a good thing, LOL

I wonder why your breathing issues are happening again - do you have seasonal allergies?? I know that the ragweed is in full bloom where I live.

Take care

Susan

I hadn't really thought about the connections that are presented in this thread in this way before. I to have chronic sinus infections/ acid/ asthma/ allergies/ rabroadP/ low back pain.

I started taking Prevacid Solutabs 2x/day about 3 years ago when I had a 4 month flare-up of asthma/acid which caused a chronic cough and lead to other health issues while I was worn down. Between the Prevacid and an increase in asthma medication, I felt better for years in terms of the reflux. It wasn't until this last winter/spring that it stopped being as effective for me.

This summer, I have had some major acid related asthma problems. I've been on 3 PPI's, 2 rounRAB of steroiRAB and two antibiotics (1 just in case, 1 early onset sinus infection). I've been coughing all summer. There have been multiple times when the cough gets worse and I can't stop or catch my breath. Coughing is my primary symptom for both my asthma and reflux. I keep going in to the doctor because I'm not always sure which is flaring up at that point and time. It is a viscous cycle.

It is difficult to speak of the back pain with the Prevacid. I had some right side back pain just below the rib level when I was having the acid/asthma problems 3 years ago. They did testing and found no cause. It was better while I was on the Prevacid until this spring when the pain came back. I was still on the Prevacid then. I'm wondering if I may be just the acid problems, if I'm injuring it in some way with all the coughing or if there may be GB problems that haven't been diagnosed properly.

Hi Sweetie :)

Like you the Prevacid did seem to help my breathing very much - it took almost (2) months for me to see the difference - but there was significant improvement.

The lower back pain has occurred with the past month I would say - AS has a return of my breathing problems :( :( also the reflux seemed to be somewhat better and now it is bad again. The factor in all this for me - is about a month or so ago a new rabroadP med was added to my regimen!! Diovan/HCT - this can also cause back pain, breathing problems, and YES aggravate reflux - OH JOY... It is REALLY REALLY helping my rabroadP but is giving me swallowing and sinus problems along with the above mentioned ones.

So at this point I am sort of stumped and to be quite honest - SO DEPRESSED ABOUT IT ALL... My rabroadP has been mostly too high and not well controlled for over 2 years - so I REALLY NEED the rabroadP control - but I am not sure how much longer I can deal with the breathing problems, sinus pains, back pains, etc.

Then I wonder if it is because of long term use of the Prevacid and not the Diovan at all - scared to go off the Prevacid though because of the 'rebound reflux' effect.

How have you been doing? Was it hard stopping the Prevacid?

Hope you are WELL!

Vanessa
