Anyone able to shed any light on this would be greatly appreciated. For the past three weeks I have been experiencing pain/discomfort in my lower back and deep in my bum cheeks. It started off with the backs of my thighs being slightly achy and as the week progressed I began to get feel more lethargic with a stomach ache and lethargy. I went to the doctors who took my blood pressure, etc (but didn't check my back) and told me I must have a virus of some sort. As the week continued and the symptoms stayed (some down to anxiety I think) I went back to the doctors who made me bend over to touch my toes and told me exactly the same thing as the last doctor. This was over a week ago now and although most of the anxiety symptoms seem to have subsided I am still left with pain in my lower back, the sides of my hips and deep in both of my buttocks as well as a bit of discomfort around my anus entrance, sort of similar to piles. I tried to feel around in my right buttock and wasn't sure what I was meant to be feeling but there feels like jelly or something ball like deep in the centre, is this normal?

Hot baths seem to help but anything else that can help would be very much appreciated. Tonight my coccyx has been hurting as well.

The pain that you are describing is nerve pain. A nerve is being irritated and/or compressed and that is causing the pain. Normal pain meRAB won't touch it, but there are meRAB that do take care of nerve pain.

Hi ibake. Thanks for the reply!

I'm not too sure if you saw my edit but I've been getting quite a bit of pain in my coccyx area as well, would this still fall under the never pain? I can't get to a doctor until Thursday as I'm about to register at a new surgery but is there anything I can do in the meantime to help it?

Just a quick update on how I am.

Friday night I discovered a small painful spot on the top of my buttocks which I believe is a Pilonidal Cyst. Having a warm bath the night before I woke up Saturday with only the pain in the buttock area, my hips and lower back were not aching at all. However this morning I wake up and the aches in my hips and the buttocks seem to be returning.

I'm just wondering your age. My son was diagnosed with ankylosing spondlyitis . It usually affects young males and your symptoms sound similiar to his. Unlike other back problems, the pain of anklyosing spondlyitis is usually worse after not being active. It gets better as the day goes on. It comes with flairs of fatigue and effects the lower back (SI joint) and you also develop pain in the buttocks. Maybe you caN google this type of arthritis and see if it fits your symptoms. You would have to go to a rheumatologist for diagnosis. There is a gene test called HLA-B27 that most times would show up if you have this form of arthritis. Hope this helps.

His Chis. I have just turned 27 this week. :) I'll look into ankylosing spondlyitis and mention it to my doctor when I see him on Monday.

The dull pain is still pretty constant in the bum and lower back, although I am now getting the odd throbbing ache in either side of my pelvis.
