Hello,

Long time lurker first time poster. I've been having some lower back pain that started early last week and I was wondering whether any of you guys might be able to shed some light on it.

Last Monday/Tuesday I started to get aches and discomfort in the backs of my thighs, which I put down to sitting on a really old sofa for long perioRAB of time that week. The discomfort then moved into, what I can only describe as deep in my bum cheeks, behind my testicles (hip bone? - I checked my testicles for any lumps) and up my lower back. On Friday and Saturday I began to get discomfort in my stomach and either side of my thighs as well. I went to the out of hours clinic Saturday night where the doctor checked my pulse, chest, throat etc. as well as feeling around my stomach and giving me a urine test (which came back clear) - he said I had some sort of virus and rest should be enough to clear it.

Whether these two things are related I don't know but I thought I had best put them down just in case. Although I'm feeling better than I did Saturday I am still experiencing pain in my back, thighs and bottom ;) and wondered if anyone had any ideas as to what this could be and how I could relieve the discomfort? I've been taking paracetamol, having hot baths at night and sitting on cushions but the aches are constant.

SounRAB like it could be hip pain. I have lower back and hip issues, plus sciatica.

There are stretches you can do for your hips- it can really help. The best one that I know of is to lie on your back with legs on the floor, put the ankle of your right foot on your left knee, and then pull your left knee up and into your chest while keeping your right leg relaxed. You should feel a deep stretch in your buttock/hip. I hold that for about 1 minute. Then I switch sides. Do at least twice a day.

I hope you feel better.
