I had a hernia repair and small bowel resection on November 22nd. It seems as though ever since I returned from the hospital, I developed a low-grade fever that only kicks in at night. Sometimes it's earlier (like late afternoon) but it's mostly at night.
They go no higher than 100.6, and always go down when I take my percocet. My surgeon doesn't seem concerned....he said to worry only if my temperature goes up to 101 and stays there even after percocet. It hasn't done that.
They're not concerned about the possibility of infection, I suppose. I had three jp drains after the surgery to remove excess fluid from my abdomen, the last of which was removed last week. I still have some staples which will come out on the 28th. This is driving me crazy.....they don't seem to be concerned, but I feel like crap much of the time.
Sometimes I get chills with these fevers too....something I forgot to tell my primary care md today when I saw her, but I'm positive that I told my surgeon's office about it. Again, they don't seem overly concerned.
I realize that I had major surgery and it will take time for me to heal. I was hoping it wouldn't take this long. This is worst than my hysterectomy, which I had 5 years ago.
Btw, this was an "open" surgery. No laparoscope.....
Any advice on how to cope? Thanks!
