I am currently going to different doctors to try to find out why I am running a low grade fever. It never goes over 100. When I get them, It only stays for a little while and then becomes normal again. The only complaint I have is a bad back. DDD and some herniated and bulging discs. Any ideas? Could the fevers come from arthritis or imflamatory disease? They only started 6 weeks ago that I have noticed them. Thanks

Hi,

I also get bouts of low grade fevers which usually run in the 99's to 100's and my face gets hot. That's usually when I know I have some sort of fever. However, I do have Lupus, which can cause low grade fevers, though it's pretty much under control with a medication I've been taking for years. But one can still get flares while on the meRAB.

In '03 my normal body temperature suddenly dropped from being normal (98.6 and thereabouts) down to the low 97's and sometimes high 96's. I felt very ill and I was always freezing all the time, even in summer. I've actually worn layers of clothes to bed and had my hanRAB go nurab as if I was playing in the snow without gloves. Then suddenly in July of last summer, I started running a fever which ranged from the high 99's to the high 100's. But I also had other symptoms, though I don't know if it was all related. I had rashes, worsening back pain, lots of nerve pains, severe muscle spasms, some hives, and sudden severe light sensitivity with my eyes. My fever lasted about 2 or 3 months then dropped off. Now my body temp is around normal again and I am actually getting hot on & off (even though I don't show a fever).

I do know autoimmune diseases (such as lupus, ra, ms, and others) can cause low grade fevers and from research, that infectious arthritis can cause fevers, as well as other disorders. So it can be caused by a variety of things. It can just be that you have an infection as well.

Has your doc sent you for any blood tests at all?

My mom had lupus back when they didn't even know what it was. I have always been tested for lupus since I turned 18. I am 54 now and a little too old for lupus but I have heard of people getting it late it life. Or maybe it is a mild case or layed dormant for years, if that's possible. My lower spine is loaded with DDD and arthritis. I have some symptoms of lupus but not many. My doctor mentioned fibro about 8 years ago and I know that goes hand in hand with lupus. I have a doctor's appointment first thing Tuesday and will consult with him. Thank, Linda

also forget to say that I went to the ER last week and every blood test was normal. Also the sun doesn't bother me one bit and I know with lupus you can't stand the sun.

I recently realized i'm vey nitrite sensitive and got very flush after eating costco spiral ham. My chiro said it's full of nitrites, like processed meat(lunch meat) and bacon. I used to buy lunch meat as a random snack at the grocery store for lunch and just eat buding out of the bag or something, I had no idea it could be upsetting my system. I have upper back issue, and now I realize I've had a few reasonabl allergies, I'm 36. The flushing feeling was a dead give away with the ham!!!!! It happens very fast, I'm going to watch my backon intake too. I have also seen potential MSG symptoms from Arby's ham, or maybe it was nitrites again TOO.

I also have back problems and used to have fevers. My fevers were not associated with the back pain as they eventually took out my appendix and I have never had a fever since. You should see your primary care and get a workup and full blood panel, then if that is clear, You might want to see an infectious disease doctor to rule out anything they havent already tested for. In the medical field they call them fever of unknown origins.
