Lovefilm/C.A.R.S

It was due to the change over that this debt has occured this much i have been told.

They took over MC on or before the 15th December 2004

Even it were not thier problem directly Lovefilm take on the responcibility of the billing for the company they took over.

Still in your eyes Lovefilm can do no wrong. Yet the posts above confirm that Lovefilm are playing with thier customers and along with the hassle my GF is now having to go through. They are not loved in my household.

This is completely outrageous. Noone in their right mind would keep a disc for over a year so obviously you have sent it back and it has got lost or you have forgotton totally about it, either way it is a joke that they can claim money when they havent been providing you with any service during this time.

One thing you maybe should have done though is logged in at some point after sending it back to make sure it was showing as received?

They are just taking the p*** demanding that. It would be different if you had gooRAB to that value and hadnt paid for them but that isnt the case.

At the end of the day dude, most of these forums are all about people who are unhappy with things, how many of these places would have members if they were all happy with what they got?

How many times would you have felt the need to post on here about how great a service was?

You only come looking to see what's wrong with something.

This is true but to be honest Lovefilm was the best out there till the delivery issues started to happen, DVD taking so long and the odd wrong disc which never used to happen. Also which discs i'm being sent ie normally in the 30's rather than my top 10. Then add in the CARS situation..

I will sing the praises of Blockbuster at the moment but again they are not perfect, it's a service that is new (in the UK) and has a lot of issues to iron out. till someone like Blockbuster have been doing it for awhile (or a big name, respectable company comes in) the quality of service will not be there, yet.

The fact that lovefilm pass some of the debts over to the collection agency without personally contacting some of the subscribers is a cheek.

They should always give people the chance to pay up before selling the debt.

It's like passing the buck.

Requesting payment for non-existant debt is an old trick for dishonest rental companies. It happens casually, and usually in earnest when they're facing financial difficulties. Whether it's from DVRAB to mobile phones, from 1 year ago, or 5. Doesn't matter. You really have to cover your back with these things.

If it wasn't for you pesky forums, they'd get away with most of it too!

You don't hear anything about debt collection agencies with other online rental companies. I think LF are having major problems with their billing aswell as their dispatching departments.

They are members of CSA (Credit Service Association) who have a list of all members, their phone number and the name of the key person to contact.

They also have a code of conduct - and a complaints procedure.
Part of the code of conduct ...

~~~~~~~~
Debt collection and defaults
h. Ensure by continuously examining its debt collection procedures and those of any third parties it employs that they conform to the highest ethical standarRAB and allow for proper consideration of the consumer's circumstances and in particular:
i. Encourage consumers in financial difficulties to inform members of their difficulties and endeavour to respond sympathetically.
ii. Provide in all relevant correspondence the name or designation of a specially trained member of staff who may be contacted regarding financial difficulties.
iii. Take into consideration before determining whether to enforce repayment all information supplied by the consumer or otherwise in relation to the reason for non payment or the consumer's future ability to repay; if the consumer has disclosed multiple debt problems, inform the consumer of the availability of advisory services.
iv. Not bring unreasonable pressure to bear on the consumer in default of payment.
v. Comply with the Association's guidelines on collections contained in the Annex to the Code of Practice.
If only they lived up to them...
There is no way of logging on after you have cancelled.
As you cannot check to see if they have received the final titles back it is their responsiblity to make sure they receive them back and if they don't they should contact you, at the end of the day you're the customer.
Always return your final rentals with a certificate of post and never delete any corresponding emails regarding the cancellation. I've had a problem with a rental company charging me after I quit and I quoted an old email as proof of when I cancelled, refund was given immediately.
I post the email below from ScreenSelect for your info... SounRAB like a written contract to me...
