LoveFilm are getting on my t*ts

SounRAB to me like they've had quite a few cancellations since the full takeover has been evident. Their home page does state they they are dealing with an 'unprecedented amount of customer service emails'.

Cancel by email:
[email protected]

or use this link:
http://www.lovefilm.com/info/contact_us.html?faq_cat=My account&faq_id=2709

And tell them why you're cancelling via email because you're not going to call an 0870 number.

Then contact your bank/credit card and inform them that you have cancelled this direct debit with LF and they do not have any permission to take money from your account.

If you call your bank/cc and follow up with a letter do this in writing to make it official. Mention the amount, anticipated date and frequency. And check your statement to see who the debit is made from.

My last one was from:
WWW.LOVEFILM.COM LONDO 08082000193 GB

That string of digits looks awfully like a freephone 0808 number, unless it's just a coincident.

According to their t&c all dvRAB must be returned before next payment date if cancelling or you will be debited another months payment so be careful. Probally best to send them back recorded delivery.

Compare how many people will read this forum .. and this thread specifically .. to how many people are signed up with Lovefilm and it's a drop in the ocean .. if that !

Actually do a search for Lovefilm in Google and this thread comes out on the second page. Some people do read-up on companies before signing up with them, at the time when I signed up with Lovefilm - they had a really good reputation - were known for sending out new releases sooner than others and had good turn arounRAB on disks .. in my opinion something has happened in the last 2 months to LoveFilm. They have lost some of their long standing customers and probably have not made a good impression on the new ones either. Perhaps a takeover or name change is on the carRAB?

Whoops, sorry, just gotten back from hols. And after sorting though a ton of post, still nothing from ICO or LoveFilm.

I'm not sure if I will ever get a reply. Can't blame the post as I know the letter to ICO was received as this was sent recorded and I have proof of delivery. Maybe they are investigating and it's just taking time?

Nice posts lately, people. Orm, I can understand what you're saying. Why keep slagging LoveFilm off? Why stay a customer and complain about the dire service?

But there is a reason.

Passing on and sharing our experiences with others. Not everyone is going to receive a bad service but those that have are relaying this to the world. Nothing wrong with that.

It's also a stark warning to new subscribers that your service may be the best to start, but this appears to dwindle dramatically later on.

And a lot signed up by pre-paying for several months in advance. Unless you want to lose your money by cancelling your account now, you're gonna wait until to renewal period before cancelling.

The whole 'unlimited' rental scenario is a joke. They admit that they have a throttling service. But this was never in place in the two years I was a member. In fact it only appears to be making an appearance of late.

Unfortunately little things like Terms & Conditions cover them. I would love to see Trading StandarRAB, The ASA or The Department of Trade & Industry step in and warn LoveFilm their practices are considered dubious. Not gonna happen when one person complains. But get enough disgruntled people...

One thing I know personally though is that some of their staff do not adhere to the Data Protection Act. No amount of T&C's justifies the disclosure of personal information.

People, keep ranting as that's the point of forums. But if you are unhappy then leave LoveFilm when you can.

And those that have left, congratulations on making the step and keep your comments a-coming! They make a great read to me!

That may be true, but how profitable is it to give 3 months for the price of 1 to thousanRAB of ex customers which leaRAB to a crap service for rest of us.

I've just signed up with Blockbusters on a months free trial and I'm being sent the top 3 in my list. I know it won't last but I'll enjoy it while I can.

I dont mind them operating the "Throttling" policy, I wish they would be upfront and honest about it, instead of blaming the delay on Royal Mail.

Yawn ! When I joined in this discussion saying that I was happy with the service I get from Lovefilm you accused me of exactly the same thing. I'm beginning to think that it's not the company that's the problem here, it's actually a small number of customers who give knee jerk reactions to small problems with an otherwise good service. 6 months into my membership, I'm paying for the service, and I'm still getting regular DVD's from ( at least ) the top 10 on my list. I'm sorry if that ruffles your feathers, but it's true.

Right, i'm not too proud to admit when it starts happening to me. After defending them, it seems they saw it and thought I was an easy touch.

3 films in the past 14 days, and having received them back 5 days ago, they are still yet to send anymore out.

I'm close to cancelling tbh. I'm not interested in whining at them, becauase believe me, enough people will just accept the service, to make the active minority irrelevant to them, I fear.

Good luck though fellas, I know understand your plight.

Have been with LoveFilm (via WHSmith) since March 2005.
Unlike many others I found them to be pretty good
- on a 3 disk subscription.
During this time - disk delivery etc. went well and I received 17 or 18 films per month.
They also dealt with 6 disks undelivered to me due to 4 separate robberies on my postman.

Things started to go wrong in October with the
screenselect/lovefilm 'merger' - I am unclear 'who bought out whom' but I suspect from the changes in website, turnaround policy and disk cases - that screenselect seem dominant.

The main complaint I have is that since the changeover on 07/08 October - all disks returned to them don't get turned around until the following day.
Previously, all disks were turned around on the day of receipt (except on about 3 single occasians)
- this will obviously have quite an effect on receipts.

Despite all the hype of improvements - I will be receiving less films per month.
On top of this - I have had an e-mail saying that the subscription will be rising by

The films from lovefilm come in a plastic sleeve now that is inside the envelope, more than enough protection. Plus you can put more than one in the envelope unless you come across a damaged disc. Also, when a disc I rent is a two disc, I don't know about others, but I seem to get the two discs in one envelope. Plus I'm not really renting for the extras anyway, just to see the film.

i've been with blockbusters for about a month now, so far so good, getting at least 5 a week and a lot of my top choices

there's prolly been an influx of new signups as ppl leave lovefilm

You are happy with 9 a month which to be honest most online rental companies would be capable of providing quite easily. Low usage users are what these companies prefer.

I am a heavy user who demanRAB at least 6 titles a week. If I return 3 titles on Tuesday and Thursday I see no reason why I cannot have 6 considering I have over 80 titles on my list and the faster I return them the more users can enjoy them.

I get the odd new title and I always watch it once and return it the next day. Surely this is doing them a favour as the title is in demand and I am holding onto it for such a short period of time.

From my experiences with the company I only got 6 a week during the first 2 weeks. After that is was strictly 3 or less.

How can they justify giving some customers 6 a week and the rest of us well below that number?

Wonder what the magic throttling number is, the ones that get 6 are possibly well below the threshold number and keep hold of the movies for long intervals.

Love Film have messed me about so many times in the last few weeks..........I had on my list No Angels 1, 2 and 3. Fair play to them, they sent out all three titles as they were numbered 1, 2 and 3 on my rental list.......however I recieved 1 and 2 but Disc 3 didnt arrive and by some act of god, it arrived returned to Love Film, so somewhere along the line, someone got it, watched it and sent it back !!!.

I also think Royal Mail are idiots as a bloke up the road also rents out DVD's from Love Film, some days I recieve his titles as the idiots at RM cant obviously read and must just think that because it says love film on the envelope it must be for me. Anyway I have recieved his titles, watched them and posted them back to Love Film, lol

I have to wait til Friday until they post mine off! Its a disgusting service these days. I dont have any films to watch during the week any more. They used to before they moved send me off six or 9 a week.

The idea is, that if u put 2 DVD's in an envelope, the weight is extra and is not priced into the cost of the return envelope, so Royal Mail treat it as second class and thus slow down the service.

What then happens is, Lovefilm blame the slow delivery on RM whilst concealing their "Throttling" policy.

 Yes, that's right. Well done. You're too clever for me. Darn! I've been rumbled etc etc etc

Just because you disagree with my views doesn't make them any less valid.
