LoveFilm are getting on my t*ts

I tried to cancel my account a couple of months ago, and the guy hardly spoke english. It took him hours to get through the security checks, kept asking me the same questions.

I then (lied) and told him I was cancelling because I was leaving the country. He just kept going 'you have just paid for a month, so you won't get that money back. Yes, I realise that you knob. He then asked me the date I was leaving and was encouraging me to call back the day before so I could 'get use out of the service'. If I really was emigrating, why would have the time to wait around for their DVD's and enjoy film evenings?

In the end I hung up as he was ranting on and I was on my mobile, running up a massive bill no doubt.

LOL, no I don't work for Lovefilm, nor do I have any family members that work for them or anything else you might suppose. I'm just a customer who gets a prompt turn around on their DVD's and has done for the year or so I've been with them. I don't understand why they would do this to you and not to me, or anybody I know who uses the service.

If I return a DVD on day 1, they receive it day 2, it's replaced the same day, or very occasionally, day 3, and i get the new DVD either day 3 or 4. I find this totally acceptable and does not contradict anything they say about how they run their business.

And I stand by what I say, if you do find this unacceptable then a more reasonable course of action would be to quit rather than taking them to court and i don't see how they could be much quicker without some kind of courier service!?

If you were waiting a week or more for the turn around I'd understand it, but even if you were waiting an extra day, and you were on a 1 DVD package, you'd still get about 5 or 6 DVD's a month for what? around a tenner? It's hardly daylight robbery

I rejoined lovefilm exactly a week ago because they offered me 2 months for the price of 1. So far they've had 6 working days to post films out to me. On Monday they sent me my first 2 although I'm on the 3 disk package. Since then I have returned these disks and lovefilm have not sent out any. So that's 2 disks in 1 week - not looking good. And now I have no films to watch over the weekend.

Screenselect stopped sending me the top titles after about 3 weeks. The throttling also kicked in by the 3rd week which was why I cancelled with them but still nowhere near as bad a Lovefilm.

The warehouse move by LF is definately slowing them down further and making them even worse than they were, if that is possible.

I've found something really strange. I checked the cancel membership link at work on IE and the button was replaced by the phone number. I checked it just now at home on Firefox & the button is there. I don't know if it's because of the browsers or because I've been logged in at home since yesterday but I cancelled now just in case I can't get the button again.

Ian, if u r dissatisfied with Lovefilm, dont stand for it, e-mail the CEO as I will be doing, Jaime has done and woodpecker has.

At least we will have answers to why it takes days for a DVD to be recieved by them and whether they operate a "throttling" policy.

I am fed up with e-mailing those muppets at customer service who dont answer my questions and send the same responses out to everybody.

So basically Mark Livingstone gives out the same standardised replies like the rest of the monkeys at lovefilm. Not much point in me emailing him again. Be glad when the end of my subscription finally draws near.

does anyone know if there is a way to get a month free trial with blockbuster? I dont mind using referrals. (im currently with lovefilm)

edit: nevermind i found one :D

Screen Select went all shite when they merged with Video island, I was with them before love film, however whenever they recieved a DVD back, they took up to 3 days to post one out and even then it was from the very bottom of my priority list.

we just dont know how these things work when you are sending out 10s of thousanRAB of letters in a day, perhaps they even have their own dedicated sorting office! perhaps the post office work through the evening to clear it all.

Jaime don't kid yourself that BB are any better. I have over 30 titles in my queue and they are struggling to send anything and they throttle too. In my opinion all the major companies are much the same. So i am denying your last statement. ;)

they run the channel 4 'filmfour' DVD internet rental as well as sainsburys and others. it's essentially the lovefilm site rebranded with 3rd party's front end. and in some cases different prices. sainsburys 3 disk deal is

Shop around. Have your free trial and leave after a month of top notch service. Sign up via another reseller (like a supermarket) get e-mailed with 'come back' offers. If your prepared to move around frequently, you can get most of the year free.

To the guy who owns a store, diversify. You can't expect to earn a living from 1 idea. If the retailers dry up locally and the online sellers stop being as cheap, someone will open up to fill a 'gap in the market'. Relax, I can rent DVRAB from my local store for

I've been watching this thread for a few weeks now, but I've finally got round to joining in.

I'm a Lovefilm member, have been since January, and I'm actually very happy with the service over all. I'm on the 3 disc package, watch about 2 or 3 DVD's a week, and when I send them back I get another load 2/3 days later. which is fine.

Most of the titles I've had have been either first choice or in my top 5, and if I've had a problem with any aspect of the service I've had a swift response from their customer service people.

This is the second time I've signed up to their service. First time round, the only reason I stopped subscribing was cos I wanted to work through the backlog of my own personal DVD collection, otherwise I would have kept my subscription going.

Sorry to hear that you're not happy with what you're getting for your money, but I just wanted to let you know that there are people who are perfectly happy with the service they're getting from Lovefilm.

P.S. I like the way one of you have done the get-3-watch-3-send-them-back-the-same-day- get-3-more etc 'sums' about getting the most for your money but ( assuming you're a working adult ) I have to ask, how the hell do you find the time to watch 3 dvd's a day ?!

Do dvd rental companies send out stripped down dvd's or do they send out films with all the extras etc?

I remember when I was last with one, some were stripped of everything but the film, but others were virtually full retail dvRAB (some even had "not for rental" on them lol).
