I am from muslim Back ground but born brought up here my parents are liberal and very easy going they love the free western culture themselves, but that does not mean we drink alcohol or anything.
I am talking about music, dress, television programs, friends etc,
I have other muslim girls in our school who say that I should attach myself with my ethnic culture. i.e: wear headscarf (totally disagree with that)
listen to their cultural music and way of dress (why should i)
I don't understand their way of life and culture if i love this way of life and culture, within my own limits i.e. i do not go around sleeping with others, that can happen in any culture nothing to do with western culture.
I want to know are there any other muslim people out there who loves western free, liberal, un-oppressive way of life, and are into this cultures music, clothes etc.
here you do not have to worry oh my arms, hair, legs are showing there that is continuous tension, and if seen accused of trying to attract attention for adultery. therefore women are uncomfortable to participate in sports activities such as swimming, etc,
here you are free to stand sit, walk with other men, there you are treated like aliens separate lanes, sections on buses, sitting places, come on you get lost and separated from your male relatives absolutely pathetic.
still all these does not stop men from looking at you here men subdue their eyes, there the men gawp at the women even though they are in their heavy clothes as if they are piercing there eyes to look underneath them, very disrespectful.
I am not talking about rude and bad stuff, that is in every society and country the only difference is here it is open, there it is behind close doors and are very hypocritical i.e no it does not happen in our society or culture (it does worse, oppress women through long heavy clothes, womans rights are not recognized to that of men's, honor killing etc.)
here it is up to you what you choose it is between you and God not people to start taking out uncivilized, unfair punishment and here women's freedom is appreciated not disapproved of. and i am not talking about sexual freedom, i am talking about many, many general libeties, driving, jobs, divorce, allimony, widow benefit, right to choose who you marry, property, business ownership freedom.
In muslim countries they say yes we do have these rights for women. but come on their culture oppresses those rights severely with help of other family members and government.
I say those countries and their culture are hypocrites they make do not like western culture, yet wish they all lived here, and put on a facade that their way of life is the ideal way.
Not to mention that always have to be accompanying with male relation when going out doors to make sure her ’honor’ is not violated by herself or from others and to prevent people from slandering against her character, what a miserable way of life, here you can go out where you want and people do not go around harassing alone women or maliciously slander against her character.
