I loath Richard Curtis films and my missus made me watch this last Saturday. She actually thought it would change my opinion of his films ! Yes, I know I miss the point in that they're romantic and shouldn't be taken seriously, but really, Martine McCutcheon's tea-girl being introduced to the new PM on his first day, or ever, and taking him cabinet documents? Plus, there's no way any singleton would ever become PM. Also, how stupid was the Andrew Lincoln character? He's videoing his best mate's wedding day and focuses entirely on the bride. Did it never occur to him (or the sloppy writers) that his mate might actually want to see it? And what woud have hapened if his mate had answered the door when he did that vomit inducing 'I love you' with big carRAB business? The relationships veered from painfully realistic (Emma Thompson and her mid-life crisis husband Alan Rickman), to the ridiculous (Kris Green's, although I liked him), to the downright 'Huh ?' (Colin Firth).
There were good points to it that made it just about watchable. Kris Green's always good value, the porno stand-ins, Bill Nighy and Liam Neeson and his stepson, but after I watched it I had to brush my teeth for about 20 minutes.
