LOTR or Matrix?

The Lord of the Rings: there simply aren't enough superlatives in the world to describe how superb this movie is :)

I like The Matrix, but it just doesn't compel me as much as the fantasical world created by J.R.R Tolkien and so magnificently translated by Peter Jackson.

That's fair, but then having spent 6 hours of my life being bored by the first two LOTR films, I doubt very much the third is such a radical change that I would enjoy it. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm prepared to be open minded, which is why I gave The Two Towers a chance even though I hadn't enjoyed the first film, but doing the same for the third film is just stupid.

The thing about the trilogy is that they're all a wee bit different. My fav is TTT, but I know a lot of people who liked TROTK best...you never know...;)

I too have seen both series of films, and LOTR wins hanRAB down.

The Matrix is an outstanding film in its own right and the sequels were enjoyable but ultimately disappointing.

LOTR is a piece of cinematic history, The Matrix is just throwaway popcorn sci-fi.

As someone who has seen both trilogys i have to say that LOTR Trilogy is in a different class to the matrix trilogy this is partly because Peter Jackson had such a powerful story to work from in the first place Tolkien`s stories are among the best ever written whereas despite the wachowski brothers undeniably innovative and original storyline it just did not have the strength in depth of material to work from. I enjoyed the matrix immensely and looked forward to reloaded with baited breath only to be desperately disappointed i then waited anxiously for revolutions hoping it would mirror the quality of the first film only to find another shambles. I know many will disagree but the depth of the storyline and the emotional attachment to the characters in LOTR is something the matrix trilogy just could not come close to ( yes Neo excited me as a character but how many of us really felt any emotion towarRAB him i know i did`nt ) above and beyond all of this the master film-making of Peter jackson and the time & effort invested in ensuring his & tolkiens vision of middle-earth was truly brought to life just blows away the wachowski brothers who ultimately came up with a fantastic concept but would have benefited greatly from bringing in a proper writer to develop their idea to give the characters & the storyline depth.
to sum up:
LOTR : a fantastic story adapted brilliantly to the screen by peter jackson which played on the audiences emotions and attachment to the characters whilst bringing the world of middle-earth to life for the audience with fantastic film-making and effects.

MATRIX: a fantastic concept for a story which ultimately lacked depth and emotion with the core of the story used up in the first movie (which i thought was excellent) the lack of depth really shone through in the final two films which were not worthy of any movie fans Top 100. The wachowski`s realing the lack of depth tried to blind the audience with a few admittedly amazing special effects scenes which ultimately are already looking out-dated.

As I posted earlier, in my opinion, LOTR wins by far. The Matrix would come close if the films remained the same standard through-out the last two let it down just a bit too much for me.

I have to say i wouldn't have bothered to see LOTR if my friend hadn't forced me to. I thank her and worship her now and she's allowed to drag me into whatever she wants.

I cant say that the books are good coz I cant read more than 3 pages before getting up to do something else. Thats why I believe that Tolkien should have credit for the books and Jackson for the film. The film gives those who can't read a chance to experience the worls of middle earth.

is the worst film I ever seen - really did not see anything enjoyable - then again I find Kindo Reevse the worst actor I have ever seen - bit like watching any wodden puppet of the 1700's

It just has to be the LOTR - all three films were superb and one flowed on from the other. Deserved every single Oscar.

I can't even talk of the last two Matrix films in the same paragraph as LOTR. I thoroughly enjoyed Matrix, but as good as the first was Reloaded and Revolutions was the biggest load of claptrap I ever did come across. It was bound to go pearshaped the moment Keanu started thinking he was god - wrong movie - you should have auditioned for Mel Gibson! Pitiful!
