LOTR Blu-ray box art revealed........

I personaly don't get why he doesn't just hold off the release and use seamless branching and have both versions of the film on each disc for the movies

I'll certainly consider the extended blu-ray version if it ever happens, but I wouldn't touch the theatrical versions with a barge pole. Fellowship of the Ring seemed like two different films when I watched the theatrical and extended versions.

Wnder how well these wil sell? All I ever hear anyone saying is they'll give it a miss and wait for the extended cuts.

Personally, I couldn't watch the theatrical cuts again. Once you've seen the extendeRAB, you know just how much you would be missing.

One thing I hope for, though, is when the extended cuts finally come out on Blu-Ray, that they will be able to fit the whole film on a single disc. I don't want them split across two discs again and I'm sure BD-50s are big enough.

Whats the point, why not just stick both on.

Im guessing they are thinking people will buy these and not realise they arent the extended ones.

Then when they do release them certain people will buy them again.

I watched the first 20 minutes of the first film and that was enough for me.
Never watched a second since.

It will be interesting to see if the US discs from New Line are region coded.
If they are UK buyers are stuck with Entertainment In Video.

Have they even released any Bluray yet?

Their dvd's are awful as were their VHS releases

So this is basically the Blu-ray equivalent of the theatrical DVRAB that came out for each movie. As much as I want to see LOTR in HD there's no way I'm getting this set. The ultimate boxset that Peter and the crew have been working on for ages is THE release everyone should be looking forward to. Hopefully it will have brand new cuts of each film AS WELL AS the theatrical versions. Peter also half-joked about cutting LOTR into one single massive movie, but that wouldn't fit on one Blu-ray (unless it was in standard-def). Who would want it anyway?? Er, me...

We've never had deleted scenes or outtakes of LOTR so these should also be on the ultimate set. We need to see EVERYTHING, including the Arwen scenes at Helm's Deep they shot and then scrapped when they changed it to her staying in Rivendell, as per the book. Also the crazy stuff they originally planned for the finale where armoured Sauron reappeared at the Black Gate (in the final cut they had Aragorn fighting a huge troll, which was in fact CGI pasted over Sauron, who he WAS fighting in the original shoot)

I like the sound of the armoured Sauron scene. Let's hope it's included in Jackson's ultimate set. Any idea when it's expected to be released?

Its actualy on the existing Return of the King:EE DVD. Unfortunately, its buried in one of the documentries, so not easy to find.

Not sure its the entire sequence, either, but you definately see this beautiful, glowing Elven figure appear. Aragorn stares at his beauty and then slowly he turns into Sauron and attacks!

Anyone know exactly where it is in the EE bonus features? I've had the set for a couple of years now and I still can't find the time to trawl through all the extras. Thanks for the info Hellbore.

Here's a Youtube clip of the special feature containing the scene. Its all broken up between bits of interviews and considering the length of the battle between Aragorn and the Troll, it probably is most of the footage.

Still would look better in hi-def and edited together properly. Enjoy what there is, though!
