I have a newer tank. My water was fine, had it tested and tested it myself. I had 6 mickey mouse platys that were active and everything was great. I added a some mollies and a few catfish (55 gallon tank) and then I have been watching them since I added them this morning. My amonia is great, my temp hasn't changed, everything is fine. But I lost one mollie and one mickey mouse platy. I think all others are accounted for. ( i had 15 fish total in the tank). I found them both back behind my plants right under where the filter is. I am not sure what happened. I just dug them out and tested the water again, and the only thing I can figure out is my nitrites are barely elevated. Just up to .5. Is there a way to get them back down? Is this what may have done these two in? I am afraid to go to bed and wake up with 13 more dead fish floating. I am not sure what happened.
I am taking them back for replacements as they are still under the 14 day guarentee, but I want to make sure there isn't something I can do to prevent more deaths.
thanks
Awesome! I was starting to worry. What causes the nitrites to go up to begin with?
