Lost my reverse in my Chevy monte carlo?

I have a 1995 Chevy Monte Carlo with 107,000 miles on it. And there was a big snow storm that hit in Portland where i live. i tried to reverse my car out the snow and i lost reverse what could be the problem other than the transmission Please help!
 
It is probably the transmission. How have you ruled that out/Why are you not accepting that as an answer?
