Palm T-E2 >> A week ago I lost all my contacts after the letter N. I read similar stories on this site.
Last night I found almost all in the recycler of my external USB HDD! In the meantime I'd of course spend literally hours trying to rebuild and I have now lost any new number I added during "the week".
Could this have happened after I tried to add a .pdf reader?
I now manually copy the to a directory in my PC data every day!
As I use only a fraction of the possibilities of the T2, I would like to wipe any programs I don't need.
Would some knowledgeable person be as good as to list beside the program list below what they are/do?...... and maybe, what I shouldn't touch!
Thanks in advance

Here's what I'd recommend you do as I can not attest to the validity of all of the individual files you listed....some are in ROM and some appear to be parts of other non crucial programs but since we don't know what's on your machine then here is what I suggest:

Purchase an SD Card Backup program such as Resco Backup and create a backup to your SD Card.

Hard Reset your device.

On the PC, find the following typically named file: C:\program files\palmone\username(this is normally a derivative of your Hot Sync user ID or the abbreviation SR)\backup

Rename this backup to backupold.

Hot Sync - this will restore your PIM Data. As well as create a new folder called backup and it will contain only the core information that came with the device prior to cluttering it up with additional software.

Then using Resco Backup selectively restore the addon programs that you use. Resco does a good job of associating icons for specific program files so you can see which ones are "tied" together and select the ones for a specific program that is not part of RAM. It also shows you with a bluedot - those that are in RAM.

When you have restored the add on programs you want - then compare the backup folder with the backup old and you'll see what's been cleaned out.

If you missed a file by accident - it will be part of the backup on your SD card and the program will normally tell you it's missing XXXX and you can restore it. That's my recommendation but here is some of what you asked for:

DTG has been part of most standard installations and ROM of most devices since OS5. You may be able to delete it but obviously if you are using it then you wouldn't want to. If you indeed copied all of your files into this post (which you didn't because there are several core files missing) then the above recommendation still holds true - do an SD card backup, hard reset, restore and then selectively restore from the SD card only those programs you want and are not present after the restoration hot sync.

Thanks for a very detailed reply Moose Man. I'll be copying it into the Data section on my HDD which is backed up to two different places every day! .... my faith in computers never was very high and seems to be diminishing daily.

To all other users please realise that when using thses gadgets you are standing on the edge of a precipice! To save yourselves the loss of time, money and anguish BACK-UP !!!
