Lose weight...... eating ?!??!!?!?!?

Ok so just recently i went to a regular doctors appointment. We went over the usual stuff until she came to how concerned with my weight she is. I am 5'7'' and currently 208. We had this same talk last summer when i was 230 but lost weight and went down to 190. She was glad but then winter came. Well now i'm not as big again but she wants me to lose a few lbs by February.
She told me by just changing what i eat and eating smaller portions that i would lose the weight again. Now the first time i lost it was from running in the dead of the summer under that sweltering sun. I asked her should i incorporate exercise, she said it may help but its the food that will make the difference. I work night shift, so I sleep during the day. She told me when i wake up at about 4pm to have a small lunch then around 9 dinner. A snack in between is ok, then have a lite breakfast when i get off work then i can sleep. Mind you i work from 12 am- 8:30am so i can't eat nothing in between then.

What i want to ask you guys is, is this completely true? Can i lose weight this way or is she just telling me whatever...?!?!?
