Well here is the review of the stateside version of the trilogy, not been very kind to it neither.Guess its the same as what we will get over here in the good old UK,I was going to wait for the EE editions and this has confirmed it for me hope they can sort all the faults by then, for now I will stick with Dvd EE versions;)
Lord of the rings review

Get the EE dvRAB you will not be disappointed, sure PQ is not as good but the films are great in the EE.I saw the Return of the King EE in Tesco's today for

In some ways I hope this Blu Ray release flops in a very big way, only to show those responsible for its release that they cannot keep on treating us like mugs and that we should of got the Blu Ray release we deserve in the first place.
For me, if its not the exteded editions then im not interested.
The closing statement of that review said it all really which just goes to show that it will still sell loaRAB regardless as the world is full of mugs.

you have to be mad to buy this set on BD when you already have it on dvd. i have had my bluray player now since december - and i can truely say i can not tell much of a notable difference between the two midiums.

i am very happy with my EE on DVD and always will be.

The quality of the extended edition DVRAB are well above the average for DVD. In fact, I personally find them not that far behind my Blu-Rays in terms of quality. So I really see no need to be inferior copies of the film, just because they're on Blu.

I bought both theatrical and EE on DVD, but that was only because I loved the films so much, I couldn't wait for the EEs to come out in order to watch them again. I don't have that problem now, seeing as I already own copies. So I won't be buying these Blu-Ray releases. I will happily wait a couple more years for the EEs to make it to hi-def.

Hopefully the final EE copies on Blu-Ray will be another leap forward n terms of quality, instead of the bodged together jobs that this release sounRAB like.

It made more sense to me seeing the longer versions that my OH bought as I havent read the book. I don't see the point of stepping backwarRAB just because the picture is a bit better.

But what's that reviewer on? He slates the picture quality for being sub par. He tells us that this bluray box set contains more DVRAB than blurays but then tells us it's a must buy!! :D

whats the difference between the 2 disk version and 4 disk version?? Iv had all the LOTR for years on 2 disk and i watched them all over the weekend for the first time in years :D still love them!

The 4 disc versions were the extended editions which im my opinion is the only way to watch them as it adRAB so so much more to the theatrical releases.
Due to the new length and the DTS soundtrack the film was sort of cut in half and put on 2 discs and the other 2 discs were packed with special features.

A bit like Titanic 4 disk lol?? I just watched the 2nd disk today cos the 2nd half of the film is the best (Im in the mood for blockbuster films at the moment) :p

I might invest in 4 disk LOTR films next time im in the mood to watch them :)

What's great about the EE is that it really isn't 'extra' stuff. It's stuff from the original story that's been missed out so they could get more screenings in the multiplex per day and stop people getting too fidgety in the cinema.

Its hardly the same thing as whats being discussed here with making us wait for the LOTR extended editions.
Star Wars trilogy came out on Video back in the stone age, then the digitaly remastered came out on video.
Then The Special Editions were released in the cinema 20 years after the original which then came to video.
The DVD's got released which were the Special Editions.
The fans requested the Originals on DVD so they got released as a original/special edition set.
Now if and when the Blu Rays get released and they only release the originals and say we have to wait for the special editions then it will be the same, but at the moment its not.

Same here - I've even ripped all my extended editions to my media player so at least I can watch them upscaled into 1080.

It's not perfect, but i'll do for now :)

Those films were so long and overrated I don't feel the desire to ever watch them again.
Plus some of the fx were rather dodgy, esp in the early ones, i'd imagine they would look pretty awful on bluray.
