Loophole over DVD age rating law

Does this mean, when I go to the shop to buy a 15 certificate dvd film and they will not sell it to me because I have no ID when they ask me because they think I'm underage(I'm in my twenties), I can tell them where to go and they have to sell it to me?

I got a bit lost in that article.
 
It means that a retailer can't be prosecuted for selling you a DVD if you're underage.

You would never get into trouble for buying a DVD older than your age - it's the act of selling it that is illegal (or was intended to be illegal:D)
 
I think retailers will still enforce this due to bad publicity etc. I mean, can you imagine say a 12 year old buying something like 'Last House on the Left' or 'Kill Bill' say, I doubt the parents would be very pleased.

It'll only become legal again in 3 months time anyway so it's pointless to stop doing this.

Having seen the bloody dvd enough times, the law is there to protect minors from things they shouldn't be seeing :o so I think it would be irresponsible of retailers to just forget it ever existed. :)
 
Indeed. The retailer reserves the right to refuse any sale.

Many supermarkets refuse to sell alcohol to anyone who doesn't have any ID and looks under 25. This clearly goes way beyond the letter of the law.

R18 titles have always been restricted to sexshops.
The only thing thats changed is that in 2000 the BBFC were forced to get modern and rewrite their rules on what was allowed in R18 material.
