Looney Tunes vs. Batman TAS vs. The Simpsons

These three are generally concidered to be the best animated series ever, but what is the general opinion of the rabroad fourms?

I say Looney Tunes, because the other two are too modern, and I think an old time classic (don't get me wrong, the other two are cool too) should hold the honor first. The other two seem too modern for the title. But that's just my opnion, and I'm perfectly fine if you disagree.

A more appropriate comparison would be:

Looney Tunes vs. other theatrical cartoons

Simpsons vs. other animated sitcoms

Batman TAS vs. other serious superhero shows

A completely mismatched comparison, but if I had to choose, I'd go with B:TAS, since personally it's my all-time favorite cartoon. A fantastic cast and great writing that can appeal to kids and adults.

Looney Tunes is certainly great, though. Heck, Bugs Bunny is my #1 favorite cartoon character. :D

The Simpsons, well . . . it's never registered on my radar.

Ehhhh.. I don't know about Batman: TAS being considered one of the best cartoons of all-time. Certainly a great cartoon, no doubt about that, but I highly doubt it can be compared to The Simpsons or Looney Tunes

The greatest cartoon series of all-time I think would be

The Flintstones
The Simpsons
Looney Tunes
Old-School Disney shorts (Mickey, Donald, Goofy)

ANYWAY, in regards to this poll, I choose The Simpsons. (Classic episodes, I mean. Nothing past the year 1999..)

:^: These are the only comparisons which make sense. Otherwise, these 3 cartoons aren't comparable against each other at all, because they each represent completely different genres and have nothing in common. Just pitting them against one another devolves into a "which do you like more?" argument, which can't be won because everyone has different tastes.

BTAS is usually considered the defining action cartoon, and often makes the top 3 of the greatest animated series ever, alongside Looney Tunes and Simpsons.

I think the reason Six Year Man has brought this is because when IGN.com did a Top 100 Animated Series list, it went like this:

3. Looney Tunes
2. Batman: The Animated Series
1. The Simpsons

But yeah, it's too hard to compare these 3 animation powerhouses.

Put it this way
If Looney Tunes didn?t exist my cartoon multi-verse would collapse. People would be inquiring of their doctors as to what is up without even the slightest smirk.

If Batman: TAS wasn?t an animated series it could have gone straight to comic books, and there are the other versions of Batman that would continue to exist and do well as tv shows, comic books and movies.

If The Simpsons didn?t exist it would be a blow to the modern animation, but a lot of what they do could have been done in a live action sitcom. It wouldn?t work as well of course.

So if this was a fight to exist where there can be only one, like if a time traveler was out to destroy cartoon history, then Looney Tunes needs to win.
Otherwise it?s hard to see how they are in competition against each other.

I wouldn't say any of those are qualified for that statement. B:TAS has aged poorly, Simpsons has been going on for about 20 seasons too long, and Looney Tunes are just little theatrical shorts, not really a series. Where's the 'other' option?

How are the Looney Tunes not a series? They were always billed as a series, even when they originally ran in theaters in the 30s/40s/50s/60s. Sure, to be technical you had the Looney Tunes series and the Merrie Melodies series, but by the mid forties they were both interchangeable anyways, save the opening titles.

Also take objection with your claim that BTAS has "aged poorly"(certainly don't think it has) and that The Simpsons "has been going on for 20 seasons too long"(try ten seasons there bucko), but you know...

I said Looney Tunes. I am not saying it is the best cartoon ever but I think i like it slightly better that The Simpsons. Batman: TAS is not my style at all.

While Batman: TAS is very highly regarded by the animation fandom, it never reached the same level of extreme critical acclaim that the other two series did. So i think it would perhaps have been more appropriate to just compare The Simpsons and Looney Tunes, because one of those two series nearly always end up at the top of "greatest cartoon of all time" lists.

As for me, i say the classic seasons of The Simpsons. I cant think of any work of fiction i enjoyed experiencing for the first time more.

I like The Simpsons and Batman: The Animated Series too, but Looney Tunes comes in first place for me. Generally I'm more acquainted with its characters, especially Bugs, Daffy and Taz.
