Looking for the title or author of an old children's book?

I slightly remember this book from when i was young, and now its driving me crazy. I remember how much i loved to read and re-read it. The story is about a boy whos grandfather, or perhaps it was his uncle, who knew how to create a whole secret world in their own backyard..through a door. The boy's parents knew nothing about it. And through the door was a whole world, in which there were all sorts of different rooms. I believe there was one room that was all trampoline? I remember the illustrations were phenominal, and I wish I could find it again. Does anyone have any idea what I might be talking about?
