I believe it took place in Ireland. The main character was Fiona. She was a common woman with whom the lord of the manor was having an affair. She became pregnant about the same time as his wife, but the wife's child was still-born. Fiona's baby was born healthy and the lord paid her to allow him to pass her son off as his wife's child. Fiona agreed and then was asked by the wife to become the wet-nurse.
