looking for the name of a book i once read or the authors name...?

I read a book as a teenager that i can't find again anywhere. i don't know the books name or author. i think it may have been part of a series. the book i remember was about a young women setting up a parish or church congregation in the american (i think) frontier. she got to know the locals, tried to make converts and then fell in love with some guy. pretty vague i know but this is my last hope to find out what the book was or the authors name.
 
I think I know what book you're talking about.
The author's name was like Jane, or Janet or something. and I think the girl's name was Emily and she also had a very prim sister.
And the second book in the series, which is the one I think you're talking about had A Calling or something in the title.
I'm going to go look for it in my bookcase right now :.

The Calling of Emily Evans, by Janet Oke.


It may not be the book but it sounds a LOT like the one you're talking about. You should read it :)

Oh and "The Bluebird and the Sparrow" was what I thought was the 'first' book in the series, but according to wikipedia that series of books don't have an order
