There was a movie/TV episode/some sort of visual media I once seen where the plot was part of a select community of people, I believe future based or sci-fi. The people had a diamond 6 sided gem/jewel in their chest that at maturity changed a color. The colored gem helped the community find partners to mate with for reproduction.
In the story there was a new person entering into the scene and had a gem installed into their chest and it changed colors until it settled on a specific color.
I want to say this was in the 80's...
I have searched online and can not find anything similar.
Any ideas?
