Looking for info on some street glide wheels

Me and the wife had an minor accident on the glide today. While traveling at about 70 mph on the highway, we ran over a 4x4 wooden block that someone left in the middle of the road. We was behind a pickup truck that strattled(sp) the block, I saw just as it come from under his truck. No time to react, both me and my wife saw it at the same time. I felt her grab me tight and got a fist full of grips. The block was 4x4 by about a foot and a half long. It was laying square to the direction we was traveling. I think that is probably a good thing. When we hit it the front wheel bent petty good and blew the tire out. Jumped up and somehow hit her on the front of her left leg. Didn't hit the exhaust, saddle bag or any other part of the bike. She is fine just a little bruising and some small scratches. Any way, it was a wild ride for a minute afterwards until I got it stopped.

Now, I am in the market for a new front wheel and tire. The harley shop said the oem street glide 18" front wheel is $549. Sounds kinda high to me. I looked at a cvo street glide on the showroom floor. It has a 19" billet wheel. I looked it up in the book. It sells for $749. My question is where is a good place (website or wherever) to get a nice wheel for the touring bikes at a fair price? Also, is there any bad effects in handling, fuel mileage, or anything else from going to a larger diameter wheel?

I know you didn't ask this, but you might be following a little too closely.

I try to keep 2-3 seconds behind the cars in front, traffic permitting. I also try to ride in a tire track. By being a couple of seconds behind it gives me a chance to respond to road hazards. By staying in the tire track, I usually miss the stuff in the middle of the lane. It also keeps me out of the oil spots.

My bike is a 2010 street glide. Bought back in december.

I wasn't really following that close. About 2-3 seconds, but not enough time to miss the big ole board. I generally do ride in a tire track but for some unknown reason I wasn't at that particular moment.

@ 70 & following even 4 seconds might b a hairy evasive maneuver with load & passenger. Reads here your an excellent pilot 2 so nonchalantly shake it off … Nice. Really glad you rode that the way u did. Reminds me a this one time on a demo … didn't loose the frnt tire though. 1 vote here 4 chrome plated stock … magchloride proof, easy 2 clean & all the bling. Its all about getting seen especially the ones that don't want 2 see us. Not many miss the rolling diamond … its difficult 2 overlook. Research tread wear by wheel diameter. Trying 2 touch 1 of those Angels hovering around u have fun #ridesafe

if you're following too close to see the road surface in front of you, then something like that can be expected. you're lucky. for the wheel, i'm using harleys chrome 9 spoke wheel and really like the way it looks. if you needed the front wheel for an 08 i'd give you mine if you were near by. another note, i tend to get plenty of space between me and the vehicle in front of me so i can see the recaps and other road obstructions that might be in the road. i've been lucky so far, knock on fiberglass.

to actually ANSWER one of the questions that was asked...the answer is NO...the 19" wheel that comes on the 2011 CVO SG wont be any "bigger" then your stock set up once it has a tire on it cuz the tire will have a lower profile..

Also $549 for the stock wheel is high...the MOCO will sell you that SAME wheel finished in CHROME for the same price..they call it an "Airstrike" wheel. i think they are a nice low bidget "custom" whel option..they use the same size tires so you probably could just remount your exisiting tires.

If you're looking to just replace the stock wheel on the cheap...try the classifieds here OR try EBAY ...alot of guys put custom wheels on...and the 18" front was stock on 2010 and now 2011...so either will be an exact replacement......

I have a set of wheel with tires and rotors off of my 2010 Street Glide for sale..there is only 210 miles on them. Let me know if you are interested.
