Me and the wife had an minor accident on the glide today. While traveling at about 70 mph on the highway, we ran over a 4x4 wooden block that someone left in the middle of the road. We was behind a pickup truck that strattled(sp) the block, I saw just as it come from under his truck. No time to react, both me and my wife saw it at the same time. I felt her grab me tight and got a fist full of grips. The block was 4x4 by about a foot and a half long. It was laying square to the direction we was traveling. I think that is probably a good thing. When we hit it the front wheel bent petty good and blew the tire out. Jumped up and somehow hit her on the front of her left leg. Didn't hit the exhaust, saddle bag or any other part of the bike. She is fine just a little bruising and some small scratches. Any way, it was a wild ride for a minute afterwards until I got it stopped.
Now, I am in the market for a new front wheel and tire. The harley shop said the oem street glide 18" front wheel is $549. Sounds kinda high to me. I looked at a cvo street glide on the showroom floor. It has a 19" billet wheel. I looked it up in the book. It sells for $749. My question is where is a good place (website or wherever) to get a nice wheel for the touring bikes at a fair price? Also, is there any bad effects in handling, fuel mileage, or anything else from going to a larger diameter wheel?
